Re: How to Identify your ECU
I'm glad i found this discussion. I've been wondering what ecu i need to properly pass smog. I looked at that list that was posted up on the different numbers after the P72. I have a 97 GSR that I need to get smogged and I've been looking around and finding that a 97 GSR needs a P72-A03. However when I called an Acura dealership located here in Cali they told me I need P72-335. Soooo.... I need help!

Delayed reply, sorry, this it may help someone in the future
The p1k-e63 is OBD2, and can't be chipped. I ditched mine for a socketed P06 (for FI), shaved the end lugs off the 'A' plug, moved some pins around & it works. No need for a loom/harness.

Re: How to Identify your ECU
I have a 37820-PLR-J13 ECU that I recently, bought. I only know that it came from a manual seventh generation Civic, but I don't know anything else. Is it OBD2A or OBD2B?

Re: How to Identify your ECU
A little bit of common sense and thought would, though. Also, you "know" it's from a 7th gen (01-05) yet you're posting in the 92-00 section.
Here's where the common sense comes in. 92-95 = OBD1. 96-98 = OBD2A. 99+ = OBD2B. 01 > 00.

No, not in all cases. I have another ECU (that's automatic) from a 2002 Civic that's definitely OBD2A.

Re: How to Identify your ECU
I had dumped the contents of the ROM using a ROM editor that I had thinking that I could change the fuel map for a particular purpose only to realize that I should have simply looked at the pins to find that it was a OBD2A ECU, and as such it couldn't be done.

Re: How to Identify your ECU
hi everybody. I'm new here! I've got a doubt. I have 1993 honda d16z6 and my ECU 37820-p28-c01 has a problem and I need to replace it and I haven't found the same. I've found ECU 37820 -p28-a01. does it fit in my car? thank you

Re: How to Identify your ECU
Yes, it will function in your Canadian car. If you must pass emissions inspections annually, this may not work in your application.

Re: How to Identify your ECU
That will work, the ECU you have is for a Canadian car, if it's a US car you'll have no issues using the A01 ECU, if it's a Canadian car (speedometer in Km/h on the outside and daytime running lights) then you'll throw an ELD code since the car doesn't have one.
