For the people who cannot afford the Snap-On valve spring compressor, here is a similar tool at a cheaper price: Valve spring compressor

For all the people who have installed springs and retainers while the head is still on the car, what method did you use to keep the valves from falling in? I have heard that I can used compressed air, but I am not sure what max PSI to pump into the cylinder.

The tool he was using was not a snapon tool, infact its the one shown on the link you provided.

generally 100psi will do the job correctly and prevent the valves from dropping down.

How do you know the sealing surface of the valve and the head are touching all the way around? It could cause a couple of problems that i can think of; first - bad compression, second - valve cooling problems, one of the ways the valve cools is by transfering heat to the head via the sealing surface. If it does not make good contact the valves could burn. I hope you lapped those babies. peace</TD></TR></TABLE>

what does "lap the new valves" entail???

good write up. if installing cams along with valves, valve springs, and retainers, is it neccassary to install steam seals and valve guides or don't bother with them? also you do have to set the engine at TDC right?, I am going to be doing this setup and want to do it right the first time, lol.

Do the Skunk2 dual springs replace the old springs completely or will the smaller inner springs needs to be reused with the new springs?

I thought I'd post some pictures to clear this up .. These are my old valves and springs that I removed off my B16 head and replacing them with the SKunk2 valves, dual springs and titanium retainers. The small 8 springs next to the 16 big springs, would I need same as these when installing the SKunk2 ones or just install the Skunk2 springs on their own only?

I believe you're asking if you need to reuse any of the stock springs? If you bought all new (intake and exhaust) springs, you do not need to reuse any factory springs. It sounds like you got new dual springs, new valves, and new retainers, meaning all stock parts will be replaced by these new parts.

This is the best valve spring compressor tool available for hondas hands down because it actually holds the spring in place while you fiddle with the keepers. No other tool (to my knowledge) is capable of this. They have a video on their website.
