Re: hid headlight retrofit
Do you know what a projector retrofit is?
Yes, it's really needed. No, you can't use HID kit in stock housings - it'll blind the hell out of everyone else and you'll look like a ricer, in addition to uneven lighting and zero cutoff

Re: hid headlight retrofit
projector retrofit opening your oe headlights and sticking some projectors in there.
and correction ** i think it looks rice when its not done right??
and honestly i dont care much for blinding people. theres this tab on your rear view mirror to reduce glare at night

When you're driving toward someone they don't have this tab on their windshield to reduce glare at night

Re: hid headlight retrofit
when your driving towards someone they shouldn't be looking at your lights anyway. hid or not.
also
i heard that if you align your lights after hid install that you should be alright

your logic doesn't even sound right,
and it sounds like you've never driven on a unlit highway at night.
you don't have to look at the oncoming traffic's hi-beams to be blinded by them, ESPECIALLY if you have HIDs in stock housings
you'd also be an easy target for a ticket in this event

Re: hid headlight retrofit
actually, i asked a cop, cus that was also a concern, and he said as long as it falls in the color range its ok to have hid light. meaning they cant be too blue or purple or any other color. its ok tho cus i was aiming at the 5 maybe 6k. and theres no reason for anyone to get butt hurt, it was just a simple question. do i need projectors or not, if i do then ill just stick with my halogen lights

Re: hid headlight retrofit
this thread is so biased dude.
anyway. i just order my set of hid from http://thehid-spot.webs.com/.
has anyone heard of them btw? there here on the ht.
i ordered from there because they look legit.
they should be here in couple days.
i hadn't really thought of a retro fit untill now.
seems like i'm gonna need it though. i drive a 94 civic.
any pics of what projectors look like on that car. or advice on how to go about that?

Re: hid headlight retrofit
i agree they are more aesthetically pleasing to look at it hands down, but as far as light output, color correctness of the bulb purchased, and beam pattern, the kit from retro solutions is definitely better. Both kits are currently 35w. I've decided to upgrade to digital 55w bulbs and ballasts from retrosolutions and hopefully that will improve the light output of the morimotos.

Your retrosolutions G3
Mini Morimoto
I always thought the Mini Morimoto were better than the G3 - much wider, sharper cutoff, and better light output.
Also, be careful when using 55w ballasts. I had a set of shrouds melt for some reason - Matt at TRS said it could have been due to my ballasts and didn't recommend using 55w ballasts. Although I was using 35w but that was one of the causes he cited. He shipped me another set of shrouds free of charge - that's what I call customer service!

Re: hid headlight retrofit
Yup I was under the impression that they were designed to perform better than the G3 kit from retro solutions. I've installed 2 sets of Mini Morimotos so far and they're on par with if not better than most OEM bixenon projectors.
