i was wondering...my mom keeps bitching at me about modifying my car. She sais that my insurance company won't cover me in the case of an accident because they will blame it on the mods. Is this true?

It mainly depends on what insurance company you have. Some of them do, and some of them cover a specific %. Others don't care.

If they blame it on the mods, then I'd switch if they want to be dumbasses about it.

Yup, I have $1000 worth of rims and stereo insured on my policy. Just up to that though, unfortunately. I can't yet afford to raise it to $3000

I think telling the insurance what you moded on the engine is like you telling them your using this car to go race. But i dont know what kind of modification your going to tell them.
I had a ticket for racing on highway long ago(clearly i was NOT RACING dick cops).. once it showed up to my company , they cancel my policy so quick that i didnt have time to pull the key outta my car.

in my opinion and personal experience with the insurance co. is that they dont cover the mods. you'll be lucky if you get any..although it does vary depending on the company. i have allstate and i know for a fact that farmers, 21st century and a lot of the well known companies dont look upon the mods. its lik a personal lost. the only coverage is to the car itself in its stock form.. if u report your mods, its true, its lik your telling them dat you race..which is a big NO NO..so i would say just have all the precautions and just a reminder..gettin caught racing, crashing, or even thieves comes with the game of HONDAS. so just be careful..and for all the southern cali guys did u here about the new law for racing..if caught racing it is not just a ticket or impound it is now thier right to confinscate the car. bye bye to your car..so be careful..anyone correct me if im wrong

well my mom is freaking out because i am converting to manual steering. I don't see the big deal. She was all like saying how she was gonna go call the insurance company tomorrow to ask them about it. I was like why the hell would you do that. She is pissing me off So does anybody have an insurance company that if you got in a wreck you would not be covered if they found your mods? Could they blame the accident on your mods?

I had my vafc, JR Btc and stereo system jacked up, but the insurance paid for everything. At first, they told me they need to investigate because my car is modified, so I was like fine! I'd waited for three weeks still no result so I called my insurance back and told them I'm going to call the Department of Insurance, You know what they did?, they called me the following day and said "Sir, we send you the check this morning". I was like OK. So if you want them to pay you, scare the hell out of' em!

one insurance guy i spoke to said, "...every $1000 invested is $100 extra per month."

i laughed at him and never bothered to insure my bolt-ons.

State Farm agents will tell you that anything that is bolted into the car is covered under your plan. However you need reciepts or you wont get jack.

I have Geico, and I just recently called to see how much insurance would be on a 95 SI hatch, and I told him all the mods that it already has, and what I planned on doing with it (1200 in wheels, 2000 body kit and paint, 800 exhaust), and with all that and some other lil stuff, the quote was 1450 every six months. And he said as long as you keep records, and notify them if you make any other big changes, everything is covered.

damn 800 for an exhaust? I hope its spoon or something

anyways....does anybody know the answer to my previous question? What will happen if i don't report all of my mods to them and get in a wreck. I'm not asking about them covering my mods, but if they would still cover the cost of the damage to my car. Would they try to blame my wreck on the mods?

It will go from case to case. But say your car catches fire and you have an amp/speakers and you didn't put gromets where you drilled holes for wires they won't cover your car and say that started the fire. Even if it really didn't Just be careful what you add and make sure it's done the right way. Anything that looks half assed the insurance company can just say the reason your car is totalled is because of faulty wiring done by yourself or an unlicensed mechanic.
