help with DIY city lights.. 97 civic.
okay... now i know its been covered dozens of times before, and i found all the write ups and all that, but i just have a couple simple questions.. for one, from what ive herd, the "jdm" way to do it, is to eliminate the corners completly, so they only turn on with the hazards, or turning... how can i eliminate them so its just this, and my city lights are on? and 2, for the ek, i would obviously have to cut into the actual reflector to get the bulbs in..(bc im attempting to do it on the stockies) is it worth the risk of f***ing up the reflector??? has anyone done this in an ej?? thanks in advance

Just disconnect the parking light wires from your corner lamps, and attach them to the city lights.

I wouldn't cut the reflector. You can find inexpensive H4 city light "kits" that work with the stock housings and require no cutting.

Here's the kit he was referring to. I wonder how similar these look to the OEM city lights.

I think in reference to the lighting inside the headlight...those kits should do a good job of making it look OEM but...of course..the bulb placement is different so that would be the main thing.

To be honest, I'm not certain of the wire colours, but if you have a mult-tester, it should be simple to determine the correct ones. Once you do, it's as simple as disconnecting them from the corner lamps and connecting them to the side markers.

Yes, that's it. They should function similarly to the OEM ones, but I'd suggest using a plain clear bulb rather than the silly ones that they show in the eBay ad.

ok... first off, thanks everyone, but i still have one question... is there a way that i could wire the lights to have JUST the city lights on for the first click, and both the corners and the headlights on for the second click? cause one i dont know how safe it is, just with the headlights, and 2, i dont want police to give me ****... their dicks around here.... (union, nj that is...)

it's perfectly safe, you're not gonna lose any vision from not having a low wattage orange light not on...and you could probably do it where it comes on with the headlights, but you'd have to cut into a headlight wire or 2...police haven't given me any problems...going on over 4 months now

Those H4 rings end up looking kind of weird, considering the stock civic headlight has a fluted section of the lens designed specifically to make the city light more noticeable:

I think you will get **** for that because you have no illuminated corner markers. It shouldn't matter if you always remember to turn your headlights on at least one hour before sundown and leave them on until one hour after sunrise ... but I can still foresee you getting hassled for it.

according to IL rules of the road, they aren't required to be on with the headlights
"# LIGHTS: Lights required on motor vehicles are:
* HEADLIGHTS: Motor vehicles must have two headlights. Headlights must be lighted from sunset to sunrise. State law also requires headlights to be used in times when rain, snow, fog or other atmospheric conditions require the use of windshield wipers. They should also be used when objects 1,000 feet away cannot be seen. Bright lights must be dimmed 500 ft. before meeting an oncoming vehicle or 300 ft. before passing a vehicle. Motorcycles and mopeds require only one head light, which must show objects 500 ft. ahead. A motorcycle headlight must be lighted whenever the vehicle is driven.
* TAILLIGHTS: All vehicles require two red lights visible for 500 ft. from behind. Only one taillight is needed for mopeds and motorcycles.
* TURN SIGNALS: Vehicles, except motorcycles, trailers and semitrailers, must have right and left turn signals on the front and rear. Signals must be seen from 300 ft.
* STOP LIGHTS: Vehicles must have at least one red or amber stop light visible for 500 ft. from behind in normal sunlight.
* LICENSE PLATE LIGHT: Vehicles must have a white light making the license plate readable from 50 ft. away. The light must be on whenever headlights are lighted.
* PARKING LIGHTS: Front and rear parking lights are required for any vehicle stopped on a highway at night. Some local communities may allow unlighted night parking on streets.

ill post let everyone knowhow it goes... and im going to talk to a local cop that i know to see what he says... i know they dont care much about wether or not their on, but they do care alot if the corners or any lights really, are a different color... a friend of mine used to have red corner lights, and he always got pulled over for them... they said that red and blue are only official government vehicles...

Re: (ekcoupe88)
i got my lights! finally- but i installed them, pretty easily i might add, and i wired them up the "JDM" way.... so i eliminated my corners so they only turn on with blinker or hazards... id say their great for the price... at least for now... good light output too... ill post some pics soon...
