Default Gas Tank Float

I think my gas tank float is screwed up, the gas gauge fluctuates between half way and full irratically. I have a 95 civic dx and the tank is supposed to be 11.9 gallons, well if i put 5 gallons of gas in it (when the gauge says empty) the gauge goes back up to full..can someone give me some insight into this problem or how to fix it...

dont' bother fixing it just drive and fill up at a set interval. like fill it up every 200 miles.

In FLA we had gas that was contaminated with sulfer and it would cause the gas gauge to stop working correctly.

My mom's gauge is broken and now she just fills the tank every 250 miles.

alright, i am just going to drive this tank until 200 miles and then see how much gas it takes to fill, and then if its like still 6 or 7 gallons ill drive the next tank to 225, and so on, until i stall out in the middle of nowhere
