yea it does depend highly on how you drive... there are so many things... from keeping up with maintenance to tire pressures.. i shift around 2-2.5K a lot, sometimes ill take it to 3, rarely more than 3K and im getting 32MPG in the city. I'm also planning on building and installing an HHO kit in the near future. My friends moms ex-boyfriend has an inline 6-cyl jeep running around at high 50's MPG with the HHO kit..

For spark plugs I think I used Denso, but whatever you do, do not buy Bosch they are crap! As for better mpg, I try to drive like a grandma, but I do have to hit vtec a couple of times to keep things exciting. I have my tire pressure at 40 psi, trying changing you air filter aswell, cap, rotor, and wires, and maybe fuel filter. I getting 35 mpg combined in my D16z6. Good luck man!

Your fuel needle shouldn't bounce and forth that much, no matter how hard you accelerate. You could see a dip in cornering, but you shouldn't notice a deflection in linear driving.

Maybe knowing what was done to your car could help explain why your mileage sucks..? Everybody keeps saying shift lower, shift lower. BS. If you're mashing the throttle 50% and shifting at 2500 then your mileage will still blow. If you shift at 5000 with lighter throttle 20%, then that will be better. Mashing the throttle will greatly increase the air volume so the ECU has to proportionately increase the fuel volume.

To note, I got 33 mpg on my last tank... B18C in an EJ8.

Heh!

I gotta be king of "Si Gas Mileage"

B16A2-EJ7:

5/16/08 - 353.7 miles / 9.349 gallons = 37.9 MPG
5/21/08 - 373.0 miles / 9.630 gallons = 38.7 MPG
5/27/08 - 383.8 miles / 9.337 gallons = 41.1 MPG
6/03/08 - 409.4 miles / 9.876 gallons = 41.5 MPG
6/07/08 - 366.1 miles / 8.679 gallons = 42.2 MPG
6/16/08 - 344.8 miles / 9.051 gallons = 37.8 MPG
6/23/06 - 450.8 miles / 10.62 gallons = 42.5 MPG

You can click on my 'nick' to the see the car, but...

Basically it's a HX shell with a full Si swap - HX rims with Pirelli tires @ 45 PSI - Mobil 1 10W/30 motor oil - Redline MT-90 tranny fluid - Chevron regular unleaded - and don't race ppl more than you have to...

Personally, I prefer copper-core plugs!

They work the best, but you gotta change 'em out more often - 15K is about right in my experience...

My pick: Champion Copper Plus RC12MC4

because an older O2 may provide more erroneous or inaccurate readings, which in turn cause the ECU to compensate on its fuel delivery that could adversely affect efficiency.

Yeah, but, doing a little seat-of-the-pants testing...

I've discovered that I can get away with regular unleaded, as long as I use certified Top Tier gas (Chevron, Shell, Texaco, et cetera).

Non-Top Tier regular gas (everyone else) runs like *** in my b16! Kinda schizo...

Gas mileage is about the same, either way, but...

My b16 actually starts, idles and runs better with Chevron regular than non-Top Tier premium unleaded!

True!

The best method is to top off your tank at fill up, use the 'trip meter', and (more or less) ignore the gas gauge...

With my 2000 D16 HX I had to start looking for gas @ around 400-425 miles - give or take.

With my 1998 B16 HX its 350-400 miles...

the only way a header will do that kind of damage is if you had a primary O2 in it and it was being blocked from reading any sort of exhaust gas. no effin way otherwise.
