Default Fixed lighting problem but now burning smell

I have a 93 Civic EX stock other than I/E, aftermarket CD player, and alarm. over 5 years ago I had clear tail lights and a stereo which kept on blowing the tail light fuse under the dash so I put a 15 in I believe. Then a year later when I was in the process of redoing my stereo one of the stereo wires hit metal and blew them out.. I didn't know that and drove 30 mins at night with only headlights.

I figured a few days ago when my instrument cluster(my driving lights weren't working as well..only headlights) wasn't working it was the same thing and checked the fuse, but it was fine and checked all other fuses under the dash and they were fine. I thought I fixed it, and then it stopped working and when I have my headlights on it starts to smell like wires burning/melting. I checked it today and thought I had it working perfectly(just pulled a few fuses and played with a few wires) and it worked but when I got back into the car after I was done checking to see if the lights worked, and it smelt like burning/melting wires. My blinkers and brakes work perfectly.

Cliff notes:
This has happend twice before(1st I upgraded fuse since upgraded to aftermarket CD player, and the 2nd time a CD player wire hit metal, and I replaced the fuse and it worked fine, for the past 4-5 years), but this time the fuses aren't blown. I haven't checked the fuses under the hood, but I don't think that there is a fuse for this underthere but I could be wrong. I do have an alarm so it could be something with that, but I visually checked all wiring and everything seemed to be tight.

Thanks in advance and I appreciate any help you can give.

You can damage your wires if you put in a higher fuse. If it is set to blow at a higher level than factory it is bad for your car. Be sure you put in the factory size and get your stereo to work on the standard fuse.

Fuse ratings are designed to protect your WIRES. Not your equipment . If you have loaded the lighting circuit with a 200 watt amp --- you may have let the "factory installed smoke" out of the wires.

You should never exceed the spec. fuse rating when replacing -- unless you are using oldschool troubleshooting techniques (use a 50 amp screwdriver and look for the smoke)

Sounds like you need to spend a weekend disconnecting your mods/installs, then hook up one at a time while performing the sniff check for each.
