I don't think its BS, my best wishes to the father with the car. I don't think this issue should even be brought up.. don't worry if its BS or not.. if it is, oh well.. we'll get over it, but if it ain't then you're really showing this guy a bad side of HT. Good luck with the car! I'm sure your son will appreciate it.

well, i'm just saying it sounds like BS cuz the guy is posting with his sons email addy in the HT profile. HT member "House of Boost" posted the profile for the addy and it says he's 22, and his name is listed as Randall, not Mike. and if he's paralyzed then why is his hobby listed as "workin on racing my 2000 civic." plus the posts dont seem like they are written by a 47 year old, its just not believable. if i'm wrong, then i'm truly sorry, but it sounds like bs
dick.

In his post above it says you can reach randall or chris, mikes friends dan doesnt want you to email mike, this is a SURPRISE.
they are 22, probably about the same age as mike..
a 22 year old with a 47 year old dad makes sense...

and mike had a 2000 civic SI, since hes paralyzed and all, im doubting he had much time to go to the computer and change his hobby.
his dad is building him a 2000 civic EX

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

enough of that...

remember dan that making your car pretty makes it a target for those who decide to work less in life.

keep your ride in the garage. dont get so caught up doing everything that you forget that (proggesively) your car will become more and more noticeable, making the thieves drool and drool a little more. we hear about thieves on this website every other day...lets keep you, and mikes car out of the demographics.

hey wtf im 29 going on 16! who cares! the post seems sincere to ME.

ANYHOW, imo if your going to go w/ a swap you should 1st think what your goals should be.

if you want turbo or supercharger i would NOT go w/ the b18c5 as this is hondas NA screamer. not that you cant turbo or supercharge it, it's just not the 1st choice imo.

the b18b or b18c1 are good choices for turbo, plus the b18b is found cheaply and it has lower compression.

you can also do the b16a which was the motor that WAS in your sons Si, not the strongest of the honda motors but a very versitile motor as almost all the b18c5 internals can be swapped on that engine.

in all honestly this is a tough question to answer as there are tons of options to go with (thats one of the things that make this hobby so fun)

you should set a goal and to some extent a budget (or at least some sort of stage set up,example stage 1 swap, stage 2 wheels, stage 3 etc....)

for some great info check out http://tech.hybridgarage.com/

good luck on your project, i'm sure your son will be very happy!

ps what ever you do and no matter how tempted you may be pleeeeaaaase don't put altezza tail light on the car

Here is what I'd do, and what I've done to my car basically:

B18c5 engine. Use the EX engine harness. Put the engine in and to make the ECU stuff go easier, buy a OBD1 P28 ecu which has been chipped ('kenji' on the board sells this stuff - I highly recommend it) and then you'll need a OBD2 v2 --> OBD1 ecu conversion harness. Plug it into the engine harness and the P28 ecu.

If you decide to go with the B18c5 Type R engine, you need to use a rear transmission bracket from a 99-00 Civic Si, and the Drivers side engine bracket. The rest of the stuff like the mounts, you'll have whatever you need from the EX engine.

Very easy swap, and it'll be quicker than than his stock Si (unless he really modded it up).

Then you've a nice and fast motor squared away and you can move along to the interior or the body. Which I'm sure your son would help you find his favorite stuff!

Just keep this site here on the favorites list, because it's full of truthfull information from people who have actually done this stuff. You sound like a cool dad.

this is a great story... brought tears to my eyes when i read it. I believe that he's really a dad trying to help his son out. It's not like he has anything to gain by making up this story. Anyway, go with the b18c5 if you want n/a. If you want to go with a turbo setup, go with a b18c. Personally i would (and will be after i'm done with my prelude) go with the n/a b18c5. It's just cooler. It's not as fast as a turbo can be, but a n/a c5 with a built valve train and high comp pistons (as well as the usual mods) will be pretty damn fast. It's a little more prestigous too beating somebody all motor.

When i do buy a civic (it'll be an eg civic aka 92-95) hatch, i'm going to put the c5 in with high compression pistons, maybe some toda cams, heavier duty valve springs, valves, retainers, probably an ACT xtss clutch (i have one in my prelude now and i love it) with a lightweight flywheel, lsd (stock), maybe a JUN header, stock type R intake with a k&n filter. Thats all i've really decided on now. Hopefully i'll be able to rev to 9k and make some sort of a 12 sec pass at the track... of course my car will most likely be stripped though. I hope some of this helped, good luck!

a built up NA c5 can be fast and fun but for that sort of $$$ you can have a killer combo of a b18c1 and turbo setup. i might be biased but imo the c5 is a bit steep in price due to their demand and rarity, plus the fact it's the top dog of the b series.

some may argue (and you might want to consider this) the b18c5 has a better geared tranny, lsd, better head, better camshaft, and other internals, better manifold,tb, and many oher goodies. thus the higher premium might be worth it to you.

a NA build up is not cheap by any means and the hp/dollar ratio is much less w/ this route.

it is a very nice NA engine that can be made hella fast and strong but if you went turbo you can go with the b18c1 at around $3,000 for the complete swap its roguhly $2,500 chaeper.

you can buy a nice turbo kit for around $2,300 on our forced induction forum (still less than b18c5 so far) ,. get your self the supporting parts to run safely and you got yourself one mean FAST civic.

most of this is just my opinion but just do alot of reading, theres alot of smart *****'s in here

all i have to say is this, one cool dad.

and if i had my dick cut off, i would want a girl like jennifer love hewitt to love me for who i am, not for my ****. its more that senitmental value rather than appeal. yes i would love to lay pipe with JLH, but i would rather be sweet, and keep her around forever. think about that. maybe my kind of guy is a dying breed.

the money coming out of his dads pocket is used for fun, the lawsuit money, which im sure will come around, will take fine care of his health

I want to thank everybody for there support, you all have been great. I have had a couple responses that have said all this was BS. You wanna know what BS is? BS is what happend to my son. Nobody deserves to go trhough that kind of pain and heartache. And if you think you know Mike so well then you would know he never gives up on anything and I know he would never let his dreams be taken away by some jerk who decided to drive home drunk. In the end you are entitled to your own opinion and god bless.

once AGAIN, if you would like to contact me or Mikes FRIENDS for any suggestions you may do so.

You can still drive if paralized from the waiste down. My neighbor is paralyzed from the waiste down from a mopehead (sp?) accident and he gets around just find in his car. Throttle and brake is cntroled via hand on the steering clolumn. On top of his car is a cargo looking box that lifts and lowers his wheelchair.

get a 2000 B16 changeover, good power, looks bettter, more parts are made for it. You need a complete swap, axles, mounts, ecu, shift linkage, engine, tranny, intake manifold, throttle body, wire harness. If you get all those goodies it will drop right in. Good luck with everything, prayin for your son and hope that everything works out for the best and everyone on this board can learn something.

This is so awesome Dan! Way to go! Talk about world's greatest father.

I would say, since you already have the EX, do this:
Si front mesh grill
Si front lip
Si reat lip
B18C5 Type R motor, build it all motor, N/A
Get some good suspension
Type R front strut tower bar
Wheels, do 17's if you're going for looks
OOO! Some JDM Civic Type R headlights
JDM Civic Type R folding mirrors
An Si spoiler
Some JDM red or black Recaro seats
Mugen twin-loop exhaust
etc...etc....

I hope all goes well and that your son is doing fine. Update us with pics. Do some before and after of the car.

Shannon
