Factory Freak motor or Wrong motor sent to me!?
i recently bought a B16 swap for my Ek hatch. i paid for a B16A2, and it was installed by Adrenaline motorsports in St. Peters, Mo. Very good shop, but most B16's dyno at 135-140 hp and thats with basic bolt ons which is what i have heard and been told on several occassions.
All i have is a '99 Civic Hatchback, with B16A stamped on the block with a S4 tranny, with a Ractive short Ram intake and an APEX-i N-1 Catback, Exedy stage 2 clutch, and a ACT lightweight flywheel...so pretty much a bone stock motor... and i put down a 160 to the wheels.
So what do you guys think, did i recieve a B16A2 that was a factory freak? Did i recieve the wrong motor? Your thoughts! thanks!

What type of dyno were you on? Mustang dyno will give different numbers then dynojets.
Also your altitude (sp?) could effect it as well as temperature, theres alot to dynos.

I think that "B16A" with no numbers following it means its a JDM motor. (don't quote me on that) I know it's the case with the B18C motors.
I wouldn't be too excited, but at the same time I wouldn't be too upset.
It might just be a good motor. It's odd, but some motors just run better and harder than others.

i had a b16 done there in my 92 civic a couple years ago and it made 157 to the wheels with intake and exhaust...the motor came from g-speed corp.
i wouldnt be surprised if they installed the wrong motor..i know a couple of people who had swaps done there and didnt get the motor they were asking for or TOLD they were getting.

1...the Dyno is a DynoJet
2...i'm not upset at all about it! I'm very pleased actually! i asked for a B16 and i was expecting a B16 that normally comes in the 99-00 Civic Si, but i the valve cover has 1992 writen on it, so the only car that i know fro mthat year that had a DOHC V-tec B16 was the Civic SiR-II Motor. It has a Black Valve cover with "DOHC" and then of course "V-TEC" writen bigger on it...another sign of it being a JDM motor supposedly!
3.. The question about the internals was brought up...different cams and such?
I was just curious if this has happened to anyone else, or if i got a factory freak or maybe the previous japanese owner helped me on the motor building journey! No if i could just pin point exactly what it is that is helping me soooo much!

The real test would be dynoing another similiarly modded B16A back to back with your swap, because diffetent dynos can read drastically different numbers.

i've heard of wierd things happening, and people recieving already modded JDM motors. a particular incident comes to mind. a friend of a friend recieved a b16 and it ran abmormally well. when he went to pull it apart it had a full toda bottom end

sometimes previos owners have internal mods and when the motor came out, no one knew and thought it was a stock motor. you never know. just be happy kid and don't complain.

Adrenaline seemed pretty shitty to me. I stopped by there durning my christmas vacation because I was having some trouble...they were trying to tell me it was my non-soldered wire connections, and my dizzy cap.
I adjusted the timing later and it fixed the problem.
They seemed more eager to have me get them to work on it, than to help out a fellow tuner from Cleveland. Not to say they don't know what they're doing, but they'd rather do it and take my money.
I used to live out there and I knew of the place, that's why I went to them. I think Roland Houge (sp?) used to use them for his camaro and civic....not sure if he's still around the area though....he was from mid-rivers or something. I went to college with the guy.

Believe me i'm not complaining, not in the least bit! The motor is fantastic and drives strong and hard. i'm thinking High compression head gasket and cams are inside my motor!!! Kick ***!
Adrenaline is a good shop, i've been going there for about 4 years now and i know them all very well! They are good in my book...but everyone has their own opinion, but i like them!
