I have a gsr swapped ek hatch and it currently has the stock header and has a catalytic converter off of an si or something similar that has about a 6 in extension pipe welded on. And has a dc sport catback. I want to get a 4-1 header and high flow cat/test pipe but don't wanna waste my time and money. The cat is about 24 1/2 in long and the header bolts on to the cat right after that mounting flange behind the oil pan. The headers I've seen look like they extend about 6 or so inches beyond the mounting flange. And the high flow cat I found is about 16 1/2 in. Has anyone had this problem? Will everything bolt in? I'm not wanting to get anything hacked up and welded together

Yeah they save you lots of crap issues like length and mid aligned flanges. I bought one on eBay. Cost me $65

I'm actually in a similar situation and this telescoping test pipe sounds great...

but I'm having a hard time seeing how they work exactly?

did some looking around and even went to plm's website and couldn't find any info on how these work?

Do I still need to take it to a muffler shop to get the telescoping test pipe welded?

or does it just telescope out to whatever length you need, and then somehow ...not leak?

one end is flared and it slips in with a bit of effort I've never had mine come loose it goes into the one end about an inch or so.

sounds like I'll order one up then...

are there any brands to stay away from? I would imagine it must be difficult to screw up a couple pieces of exhaust tubing...

one more quick question that I'm not certain of is if I need flex piping after the header....
I understand it reduces the chance of exhaust manifold cracking.
Thoughts?

Okay I ran into another problem. Searched for info all night. The telescopic test pipes I found were only a 1/4 in longer than the regular test pipes. I guess I'll have to get the test pipe extended. Noob question. Will not having a cat give me a cel even if both o2 sensors are connected? What are the downfalls of having not a cat?

It slip over REALLY tight you have to push really hard to get it in so nope no leaks. I've never seen cheap knock off ones made actually, nope just don't tighten the spring bolts to tight flex pipes are seen on "down pipes" which is a turbo specific part.



the primary o2 will plug in the collector of the header and just use a fouler on the secondary and you'll be fine. won't pass any emission if you have them in your are and it tends to stink.

The header has a bung for the primary o2 and the test pipe has a bung for the secondary. But there is no way even with the telescopic pipe that I will be able to just use that. I will prob end up getting a normal test pipe and extending it about 4"
