Default An example of the sick minds of thieves...

I had my '95 civic stolen while I was at work back in November, not three weeks after a brand new paint job including a cure for that nasty cancer...I found my car the next day in an alley in a pretty shady part of town, which was very lucky, but it was missing about $2200 worth of parts; Ws2 exhaust, high-flow cat, iPod, HID headlights, pretty much the whole interior and a $1300 sound system. The car is now back to where it was before being stolen, minus the sound system, with the addition of a Viper 5901 alarm and a nearly complete turbo setup. I still work at the same place in the large mall of the city, and I still drive that car to work, frequently thinking about what the thieves must think if they saw my car back in that parking lot...

Anyway, I finished up my shift at work tonight and once I got out to my car, there was a note on the windshield saying:

"I remember when your car didn't have an alarm...that was fun..." Along with a few short obscene sentiments. I presume this note was from the dirty jerkbags who previously got to strip my car of its possessions.

I guess I'm not sure what the point of starting this thread was, it just really ticked me off to know that these guys are still out there, enjoying the fruits of my hard-earned labor and I know there are lots of guys on ht who have experienced theft. It's a terrible thing...it really is.

The first mod should be security measures, not a sound system that costs more than the car.

Ok, not meaning to be a dick. I've been in the same situation. Would be nice if you had friends willing to stake out your car to see who messes wiht it. Maybe cameras inside your car too.

Sucks that America has come to this.

I park this car on the side of the street, outside my apartment everyday.

I don't have a security system, I don't have locking lug nuts and I leave my car parked at places and disappear for hours without fear of having to take the bus home. It's not because I live in Japan, it's just because people here respect other people's things.

I wish the US government would bring back archaic punishments like shackling someone in town square so people could spit, ****, **** on or do whatever to people convicted of crimes against the people.

Or if maybe the police force actually cared enough to do their jobs instead of just harassing people and giving bullshit tickets and fines so that the fat cats sitting in the city office can make more money.

I would be just as sick and leave them a note back that says "not only does my car have an alarm now, but i am looking at you through a rifle scope from a rooftop. feeling lucky?"

i would definatly have a note sittign there for them and thank them for the brand new parts that your insurance company purchased for you along with a few other goodies. Then notify security that your car has been stolen once from that location and now it is being tampered with, ask for a security camera to be faced in that direction. thats one step to be safer.

The best purchase I've ever made for my Civic was buying my daily driver Accord.

If you can afford it (which you could get an okay daily for $1,300), then I'd really, really suggest it if you plan to be serious in this hobby.

An alarm is good, sure, but if you can afford it (hold off on getting a few parts a little longer...), the daily works a lot better. Plus it protects the "fun car" from dents and dings, the car can be down for days if I break a bolt off on something important and I get to keep it in the garage so it doesn't get rained on or face other weather related wear and tear.

As far as you saying get a daily that's something no one else wants. Ugh. My coworkers keep trying to buy it off of me!

Better idea.
How about not buying thousands of dollars worth of stereo equipment because no one cares to listen to your music or have **** rattle from inside their houses?

Seriously, any car out there with so much invested in the stereo is just waiting to get stolen because its so easy to rip that stuff out and sell it the next day for a pawn shop.

I know of a car with a nice little system (granted, not nearly $1,300 invested) that thumps, but the car is insulated so it's not nearly as loud outside the car. If I were next to it at a light playing my own music at a normal level, I wouldn't hear his music.

Your argument is the same as anyone who would say the same about any other modifications to a car. It's not fair for anyone to say, "Since you have ____ on your car, which is sure to cause discomfort to someone at some point, you deserve ____ to be stolen from your car and pawned off."

Exhausts can be loud, lights can cause glare and basically anything visual can be an eyesore. It's not fair to say they're all going to be used irresponsibly all the time just because the person has a part capable of being obnoxious.

Maybe the OP used to be involved in competition. Just as a car that has engine mods doesn't have to be driven fast all the time, the OP can turn the volume down.

Nice car. Yeah, I'm very afraid of that also. One down fall on owning a civic, but yet again, anyone can break into any car and steal it. Sorry to read up on your story, hope all goes well for you. Goodluck.
