Re: EK vs. EG
Even thought I own an EK I would vote EG because their smaller and I prefer smaller cars. The EK is just so damn tall and bulky.
It would be easier for you later with emissions as well and since most states requires that the engine that you put in must be same year or newer well you have more options.
Ultimate the your decision will have to come down to what is available so get what you can with what you have.
My heart desires another CRX tho..lol.

Re: EK vs. EG
This is a stupid topic to debate as people have different opinions. As far as modding, both cars have a huge aftermarket of parts, many of which are interchangeable between 92-00 Civic and 94-01 Integra. They're very very similar cars. What it comes down to really is just styling. Other than that there's no reason to choose one over the other. Neither car looks dated by any means. I currently have an EG coupe, but would rather have an EK coupe, mainly because the EG cupholders are terrible. Also, the EK had the option for the nice armrest. EK body also resists rusting around the quarters much much much more than the EG. My girlfriend's 97 EK coupe with 143k miles has not one spot of rust on it whereas my 95 EG coupe with 192k miles has bubbled quarters, doors, etc. Very common trend to see.

Not to be hating, but I think threads like this should just get locked. They're so similar it's like arguing chunky peanut butter versus creamy. They're both peanut butter, just some people like one more than the other. Same way with these cars. They're so similar that it all simply comes down to styling for the most part. There's no reason to go with one over the other because in the end they will be able to use the same parts.

Re: EK vs. EG
I have owned a 94 EX coupe for a daily driver and a 97 EX coupe for a daily (which I still own, its now my project car). The EK was replaced by a 08 Civic DX-G for practicality & safety reasons for friends and family. But I couldn't let the EK go... I took really good care of it, and still absolutely love the car - more then my new Civic. The EG coupe felt more nimble when it came to handling, it started rusting by the time it was 5 years old and it was undercoated since new. The EK is now 12 years old and its just getting a few bubbles now (only because it didn't get rust checked last year - stupid me). Keep in mind both cars were kept stock and well maintained, driven through Canadian winters. Now the EK is built up more, with more plans over this winter. No plans of selling it anytime soon!!
So I say go EK, EX model because you can drive it and I know you will enjoy it until you start to do more serious stuff with modding it. Plus like others mentioned, its more safe of a vehicle. The engines and transmissions are great for economy and performance, but theyre no power house. Generally just fun to drive, and you can wake up the D16Y8 with an intake header and exhaust if you want to get into modifying it. But start with an intake. Heres some pics of mine together:

"The introduction of the '96 Honda Civic unveiled a body style that was very different from the typical mainstream sport compact. With its ultra rounded exterior and larger than life headlights, it took some getting used to and a while for Civic lovers to come around to these new bodylines. Now considered by Hondaphiles to be the most aesthetically pleasing body style of all Civics, the sixth-generation chasis has sure come a long way." - Bonk

Re: EK vs. EG
Get an ej1 (eg coupe)!!
Everyone and their moms is into the EK's nowadays. Alot of people seem to have traded in their EG hatches for EK's.
I'd say go 95 civic ex coupe!

Re: EK vs. EG
Man this is a tough one for me. When i was in Highschool, the eg was the ****. Then the ek came out and after it grew on me i really wanted one. Well, i was practically given the eg i have now and think its a classic. So i pick the eg just because im going through my quarter life crisis and its more nostalgic.

Re: EK vs. EG
No matter what Eg's will always be cheaper than eks. Therefore you will have more people buying eg's when they really wanted an ek but cant afford it. This is why they lie to themselves by saying that the eg looks better than the ek. No matter how much they lie to themselves, they cannot lie to the true Hondaphiles.

Re: EK vs. EG
Eks aren't expensive because people are buying them more. They are expensive because they are newer, better looking, have better stock engines, better interior, better handling, a sense of luxury, better upgrades etc..

You know what is dumb, in Europe, EK's came with immobilizer systems....it only took north america another 5 years before our civic got the feature. I don't like the 01-05 gen civic at all though!

Re: EK vs. EG
Im sure its been brought up but obdII does have emission and obd testing. Why even worry about that, shoot for the 92-95 and you dont have to worry with anything. Check engine light on? thats ok, just a safety inspection. If you have a jumper harness in ur 96-00 and are running a obdI ecu then you can not pass inspecetion. Both are beautiful cars though. Neither are unique
