Dome Light or Open Door signal not working
Hey, ok so my 98 Civic is having another issue. The dome light wont come on when you open the doors either will the door open sign on the cluster? I've heard that it could be because a aftermarket radio is installed... is this true??? I'm guessing because its a ex the car did come with a keyless entry but I upgraded the alarm and threw away the original radio.

Could simply be a fuse bro. The radio does hold the stock alarm and keyless entry. While you replaced them on your own, you may have overlooked small things.

fuse for the dome light? Would that be inside or in the engine bay? The dome light turns on when you switch it to the constant on though. Wouldn't it not work if the fuse was blown????

^Ah. Then yes, there is a problem in the whole door opening system then. It probably went out the door with your old keyless entry.

They make retro kits where you can relocate the stock radio in the trunk bro. If you want to drop everything you've done and buy a stock radio haha

^No. You get to keep your radio now. The kit just moves the stock one to the back so you can keep the alarm, keyless entry and software pertaining to your car that's in the radio.

Re: Dome Light or Open Door signal not working
yeah no well i got that but thinking about doing wiring again is a pain. I hate wiring. But, what about the whole fact that the OEM radio i threw out? Even if i put a different radio in that is OEM wouldn't the codes be different?????

Re: Dome Light or Open Door signal not working
I don't think so. You'd have to remove your aftermarket alarms and such to avoid electrical intersections with each system. And if you go OEM with the car, I don't see a problem with just getting another radio

Re: Dome Light or Open Door signal not working
To get your ceiling light working, locate the 16P keyless plug behind the radio and install a jumper wire that connects terminal B8 to terminal B14:

Hey ron i thought the aftermarket harness there is only 1 plug and not two? I forgot what it looked like in there?

Re: Dome Light or Open Door signal not working
The EX has two plugs, one for the radio and one for the keyless system. You should find the disconnected 16P keyless connector tucked behind the radio.

Re: Dome Light or Open Door signal not working
so even though the plug is actually not connected to anything it will still work fine?????

Re: Dome Light or Open Door signal not working
That's why you're jumping it. connector B8 goes to B14 to create a complete system
Ron's prettttttttttttty smart. He still has yet to figure out my A/C glitch though ahah

Re: Dome Light or Open Door signal not working
yeah but the part where i am confused about is the fact that that keyless connector is not plugged into anything is that fine? Doesn't the plug need to be connected to have power fed through it???
and damn he is... i always hope when i get a problem he chimes in...

Re: Dome Light or Open Door signal not working
No dude, here's how that works. those wires are already powered. B8 needs to be connected to B14 to make a complete system for just that light! It's like there is a gap in a wire. The whole plug does diff. crap other than the dome light. So each port has it's own power source and agenda, you know? It's perfectly safe to jump it.

Re: Dome Light or Open Door signal not working
oh ok... well just thought it needed a full female/male connection from the plug harness to something else to make the power go through... but makes sense because the plug is what powers the radio so should be power to it... buennnno.... i love me some HONDA TECH!

Re: Dome Light or Open Door signal not working
Yeah, that plug would have also done your keyless entry and alarm but because you've put in aftermarket pieces, certain aspects of that plug are no longer needed but some still need to be used, such as in your case. So instead of a full connector, you just connect what you need

Re: Dome Light or Open Door signal not working
Pretty sure that would be in conjunction with your light. Idt it just controls the light, it controls what should come on when you open your door i.e., turns your light on when your open the door, not just in general. So it should turn all aspects of the door opening back on
