does cai void warranty?
Just wondering cuz a friend just put one on his parent car without telling them, and they bought the extended warranty so if it does they're ganna be pissed,
it's a 2004 canadian si,if it matters

Just don't let the dealership know that the car has a cai.
Replace it with the stock one before taking it in for maintenance or anything else he wants them to warranty.

I've taken my car into the dealership with a CAI, and I had the Honda-care extended warantee. No problems. It depends on the dealer. I know here, it is usually illegal to void a warantee based upon certain modifications, but that doesn't mean the dealer is going to like it or do any work.

yeah, really depends on the dealership, my buddy had a 2003 Toyota Celica GT-S and had a CAI on it, well to make a long story short...he hydro-locked his engine, went to have it fixed, and the dealership said they were not going to fix it, and by the way, to this day, his car is still sitting in his drive way

hydrolocking isn't covered under warranty. it's just like having an accident.

i had an AEM CAI on my 96 accord since 97. i had the honda care warranty until 2002 and had every repair done under warranty. i had an engine mount replaced, new window regulator, door lock acuater, heck even new CV boots (and my car was lowered!!!). i had a few maintenance things done at the dealer. they tried to make me sign a disclamer saying that any damage incurred TO my aftermarket parts (ie kit, rims, etc) would not be covered. i refused to sign it and they still worked on my car.

yeah tell me about it.....thats why my engine has 145,000 miles on it and have onlt had to change the headgasket.

think about it. your buddy bought a cold air intake and put it on his car. if he didn't know that running through a 2 foot puddle with a cai and no bypass valve would cause his engine to hydrolock than he shouldn't have bought it in the first place. if he didn't know or did know and went through the puddle, either way its his fault. a dealer is not going to warrant fixing something that was obviously your fault due to stupidity rather than normal operational degradation.

A dealership cannot LEGALLY deny you warranty coverage even though some will try and tell you that they will, from installing most bolt on modifications. The only way they can deny a warranty claim is if they can prove that a modified part was directly responsible for the failure of the warrantied part. That means that they have to do more than just say they think it was responsible, they have to prove it.
Since engine failure was a direct result of ingestion of water through the CAI and probably wouldn't have happened with the stock air box, the repair wouldn't be warrantied. If he drove the car into a lake with the stock air box and locked the engine, it would obviously be a failure due to accident and not from a faulty part.
