y8 is a non-vtec motor right? i always get y7 and y8 mixed up lol :-\ .... the y8 intake manifold is the oddball one that has the throttle body facing upwards instead of to the side....

The D16Y5 motor is a VTEC-E motor. It's designed for fuel efficiency, not power.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VTEC#SOHC_VTEC-E

A D16Y8 motor is a true SOHC VTEC motor.

I'm not wrong. Did it ever cross your mind that VTEC-E may have come in more than one engine?

Not by much...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_D_engine#D16Y5

According to wiki, yours is 9.4:1

A D16Y8 is 9.6:1.

Sell you HX and buy an EX

Swap the y5 for a y8

If you have taken apart a Honda engine, there is another way.
