d16z6 torque specs for arp rod bolts
Ok, so I put this d16z6 together about 10,000 miles ago, it runs strong, no funky noises or anything, and I've been boosted for around 7,000 miles now. No issues or anything. Well, today, I was in the shop and I wanted to take off the oil pan and just check all my rod bolts to make sure they are torqued down good and everything. Well aparently I had my rod bolts torqued to 63 ft lbs, and I was reading that they are supposed to be 43 ft lbs. First of all, is 43 ft lbs right for a d16z6, with eagle rods, and arp 3/8" bolt size, and 7/16" head size? they say 1.5 2000 on the top of the rod bolts. Any help would be greatly appreciated, David

stock is 43lbs. but eagle is 63lbs. same with arp stuff.

Ok, so are you absolutely possitive that they are supposed to be 63 ft lbs,? cuz that is where I had them at, and I just set them to 43, and drove it home. It isn't knocking or anything, but I need to get it set the right way before I screw something up. Thanks, David

TQ it back to spec. 43LB is not enough at all. the fkn headstuds TQ to 49...
If its been fine all this time. Then dont **** with it. If it was too tight it would have caused a problem by now.

Re: d16z6 torque specs for arp rod bolts
just cuz I had it at 63 doesnt mean thats where it was supposed to be. Thats what I'm trying to figure out.
My threads on the rod bolt are 3/8"
The bolt head is a 7/16"
and they say 2000 on them so logically, you would torque them to 43 like arp says
and just cuz it didnt **** up, doesnt mean that it wasnt going to

If you TQ it more it just makes it tighter, some builders TQ things higher. If the TQ specs on ARP's site are showing something different then it might be worthwhile to change it. Just hope you dont spin a bearing as it could have changed how the bearings run considering its been like that for so long.

Re: d16z6 torque specs for arp rod bolts
yea, I sure hope I dont spin any either. that would really suck. Well, I changed them to 43 ft lbs at school this morning, and drove on the interstate for like 20 minutes to my house, and did some third gear pulls with a buddy of mine, got home and it sounded exactly the same, no knocks or nothin. Then I drove to some other places afterwards and it is still running strong. I hope it stays that way. I will let yall know if somthing f***'s up..... Thanks for the advice. I really appreciate it,
David

Re: d16z6 torque specs for arp rod bolts
I actually asked Laskey this and did it to my rod bolts 8 days ago.
7/16 HEAD tq to 43 lbs is what he told me on my build.
if i were you i probably would of let it go since you might of streched them already.

Re: d16z6 torque specs for arp rod bolts
what exactly do you mean by "let it go"?
I just torqued them down to 43 ft lbs and its running good and everything, I think it should be straight....

Re: d16z6 torque specs for arp rod bolts
^yes i would of just said oh well...
specially after tq the bolt over 20 lbs...it might be good now but it takes time for things to loosen up. Since they are streched beyond max their holding strength wont be at 100%
you have already ran the motor 10k miles and nothing is wrong i would of just said f it. I can only see negative things coming from a over streched bolt. I know from over streched head studs and reusing them caused my headlift

Re: d16z6 torque specs for arp rod bolts
things takes time and it could never loosen up, but what it can do is provide a bigger clearance and thus throw a bearing.
