Default Couple of D series questions...

New to the D series, and hate to ask so many simple questions but google just gives WAY too many results and too many contradicting facts. I have a d15B with no issues, but it is a block and head only. I also have a d16 that knocked like a MOTHER and needs to be gone through. This will be my little mini-me build thread, I will try to update as I go

If you have all of the stuff do it. if you gotta spend more than $100 in parts I wouldnt. SOHC VTEC swaps are so gay.

Look up mini-me stuff in the FAQ up top. Or search for it. Short answer, vtec head on non-V block = good.

Tranny has nothing to do with it, head will bolt up but youll need to run VTEC wires and get a new ECU. You may also have to move a few wires around. Your dizzy should be fine. Im using a non-VTEC dizzy on my VTEC head.

I'm pretty sure all D series pieces work with all D series, it's just the combinations of things you need to watch. VTEC things need to be with VTEC things. All D series trannys work with any D series. You are wanting to do a Mini - me. A VTEC head on a non VTEC Block, in most cases this is good

Awesome, this is exactly what I was hoping for! Well I'm going to start pulling the d16 apart tomorrow and take some pics to post up, I'm pretty sure the heads still good. I'll probably do a light port on the exhaust side with it, but that's it. The main thing tomorrow will be getting the accessories off the d16 and cleaning up the d15 so I can start assembling the d15 for install this week. Anything specifically I should be getting before I do the install, clutch will more than likely be replaced but do I just order any d series clutch?

Also, the jackass that was supposed to do the swap on my car kept the mounts and torque mounts from my EG, whats my best option from here? If I go with the Hasport mounts do I still have to run the torque mounts?

^Regardless of what company or aftermarket, it's always smart to run all mounts. Any D series clutch will work. But, to be specific, try to find your tranny nyways, if you're a perfectionist. If it's not, I'd look for an EX/SI D series tranny, better gear ratio.

EDIT: Also, are both engines OBD1? Or is the d16 OBDII?

d16 is obd1 IIRC, how do I tell? I can get all the info tomorrow and post it up if it will help. How many mounts total are there on a 94 d series? I assume 3, driver side, pass. side and tranny. What about the torque mounts? Since I don't have the stock mount or mounts should I go with these? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NRG-E...ts_Accessories or are these just universal BS mounts?

Well, I know your D15 is OBD1, and your ECU will tell you. I'd also know by your full engine code. D16Y7, Y8, Z6?

I was also planning on getting a P28 ECU with the P08 basemap... is that what I should be going for?

I don't have an ECU for the d15, but IIRC I am running a P06 on the d16, or was till the motor blew, lol. P.O. ran it out of oil and when I tried to drive it home the motor said no.

You could just stay with the P28 and be done, it's a basic OBDI, you really don't need to mess with the map unless you boost but ideally, you want the ECU your engine calls for unless boosting.

The P06 probably came from you D15, and you're just mistaking them. Unless it was base mapped or retro fitted to the engine. Because I just researched and a P06 came from a D15b7 if I researched correctly. So this doesn't help me pinpoint your D16 as OBDI or II

EDIT: If you do plan to run that P06, you won't have VTEC, so throw it out (metaphorically). When you wake up, just read the engine code of the D16's block, that will make it easy =]

The P06 came with the car, the guy had a P28 in it for the d16, but I paid 100 less and bought the car without it. I know they cost more than 100 usually, but I didn't trust the seller so I went without The car and the motors are at my mothers house 20 minutes away or I would go get the codes now, damn I hate living in an apartment!!!

^Ah. You can buy a p28 with custom VTEC engagement, no speed limiter and custom rev limiter for like $250 new. But Idt the P06 was stock with your car but a lot of ECUs can be interchangable and if so, it sounds like your D16 is OBDI, which sounds like you won't have any electrical trouble other than VTEC setup. If going from Auto to Mani though, you'll need to do some wire changing on the IACV. If staying mani to mani or auto to auto, you're fine.

Only reason for wanting the P08 basemap was I was going to order it from pherable.net and it didn't cost any extra.

You know what? It finally just clicked in my head. IF it's an OBDI D16 and it's VTEC...It's a Z6. Wow, I'm so oblivious.

EDIT: I'm guessing it was in the Sol before the H23 right?

So, that tranny will mount right up to the D15 block, the head will pop on and give you VTEC on a 1.5 engine, or a Mini me and the only thing you should have to do electronically is run a VTEC ECU and wire for VTEC. I don't exactly know but I think it's more beneficial for you to run a D16Y8 IM and TB. Better flow and runners and looks better but get a second opinion first before you go that route.

Nope, got the sol with the H23 already in it, lol. Is the Z6 a good head to go with, or is there a better vtec head for the mini- me swap?

Awesome, you sir are the ****! That's what I was hoping for. I have a 70mm t body I will be running from my H23 though, so I'm good there.

Yeah, the Z6 was the VTEC head for OBDI cars. Your swap is common, and if the 70 mm tb is free go for it. But don't be wasting money on that swap.

D series hate bolt ons.
