Default Compression test on a cold engine that doesnt start

my engine wont start. i want to do a compression test but the engine will be cold. will pouring in 2-3 tablespoons of motor oil in the cylinders give me accurate readings on a cold engine?

any other recomendations on getting accurate readings on a cold engine?

Doesn't really matter. You'll be able to tell a decent compression number whether it's cold or hot.

And no matter what, when you put a tablespoon of oil in there, it'll just prove whether your rings are shot or not.
