knocking in suspension of my civic coupe
when i go over bumps, limerock roads, old roads etc there is this knocking sound coming from the front end. checked the bushings and they look average. struts are soft but not bad. the ball joints are not making the sound either. went under there and shook it around with no luck. its coming from the middle and it is not a constant sound. its not clicking either. nobody knows and i need some new opinions

i went under there and shook my exhaust and nothing moves. im not sure if it is my axles . im not even sure what sounds axles make when they are bad

Re: knocking in suspension of my civic coupe
check your ball joints are compressed on the spindle cause they can be screwed on the lca and still be bouncing on the spindle and thats pretty dangerous that was wrong with mine!! good luck

lift your front end up. rock your steering wheel left to right quick. have someone underneath to listen for a clunking sound. coming from inside of rack.

I had the same knocking sound and it was my skunk 2 camber kit hitting the strut tower from being to low. do you have an aftermarket camber kit?

Re: knocking in suspension of my civic coupe
you have coilovers? i have koni/gc on my 98 civic. i get the same sound when i hit little bumps and potholes. i brought my car to get inspected from my cousin who owns his own shop and said it was because of my coils. nothing big just annoying. something like the coil isn't compressed so when you hit a bump and your suspension moves, the coils will sort of pop on and off, in result you get that sound coming from your front. it is only my fronts that make this sound. my rears are okay. hope this helps

Re: knocking in suspension of my civic coupe
yes i have a skunk 2 camber kit and it has no damage to where it could be hitting the strut. i even took the strut off to see if it was making a sound.
the car is lowered. and the springs were melted down to where they are sitting. (hey i didnt do it ha) there is some marks from where the spring are compressing but this sound is coming from the transmission area??
and when i shake my steering wheel back and forth IT MOST DEFINITELY MAKES A CLUNKING SOUND. almost the exact same sound

Well i had a similar problem before, check your sway bar end links. even though they are still attached check for play it will be very little play which will make noise goin over little bumps. If you check the swap bar end links have your car on all its wheels cause if you jake it up the sway bar will be in its relaxed position.
