Car won't start *HELP!*
Wassup guys, i threw in my all mota gsr last night and got it running, everthing was running smooth except a slight exhaust leak and some other minor things.
My friend that helped me swap it wanted to drive it first, so i let him. We take it out, runs hard and come back so i can take it out. So i procede to go down the street, bang 2nd gear and it felt like i shifted from 1st to 4th, but i was in 2nd, then all of a sudden the idle quickly dropped and car stalled in 2nd gear.
I tried to start it back up but no go. The car was cranking over but didn't want to start. So we pop the hood and we didn't tighten the distributor all the way, so we tighten it and set the timing, STILL nothing.
So we roll the car back to his house and we check for spark, no spark. The fuel pump is kicking in so it wouldn't be fuel related, the car is cranking so it wouldn't be the starter. We think it's the distributor but not sure, we tried using an LS distributor ( not positive it would work ) and it didn't work. We tried swapping out the internal pieces from the LS into the GSR dizzy and still no go.
Can somebody please confirm what the problem might be. It's like the car wants to crank over but just needs that extra kick. Please help!!!
Thanks, John

Why dont you check to make sure you didnt snap your timing belt. Then go back to the distributor and check the coil inside on the gsr. Also check all fuses in and out of the car. If your not getting spark then it has to be an electrical problem but i would start at the timing belt since it spins the cam to spin the distributor.

If the timing belt snapped it wouldn't turn over. We swapped the coil out of the LS dizzy but that didn't work either
Would an LS distribuitor work though? I don't think so but i'd like to double check
any more opinions? please help

Youll be kicking yourself in the *** if thats the problem.
I had the same thing occur to me last year in my integra. I didnt even get on it when it snapped. I thought it was electrical when I noticed that I had no spark I pulled the valve cover and there it was in all its glory a broken timing belt.

its a timing belt i almost gaurentee it. when you felt it go like 1-4 it just slip a tooth then snapped. it will definetly crank but wont start and you aren't getting spark becuase the cam isn't turning the distibutor. you should be okay as long as you let of the gas right away. hope everything is okay

Re: Car won't start *HELP!* (JSPECEX)
My car was on the highway the other day and car cranked but wouldn't turn over, turned out my timing belt snapped. Just got done replacing the timing belt and water pump today, hopefully I didn't bend any valves due to the snapped timing belt.
Anyhow, better hope that you didn't do any damage to your valves since you were stompin on the motor.

Look to see if your rotor button is turning. disconnect the distributor but leave it attached to the head. Take the Distirbutor cap off. Crank the car. If you dont see the rotor button turning you have a broken timing belt. Just a sudgestion if you are afraid to take off the valve cover to unveal the broken belt.

Re: Car won't start *HELP!* (sr20cars)
Okay, so tonight my friend and I finally get a chance to work on my car. I get a new GSR OBD1 dizzy. After swapping it in we check my timing and it's off by 2 teeth. We fix that and we're getting spark finally. So we try cranking the car over and it doesn't start.
I'm running a chipped p28 so we decide to try a stock p72 and surly the car starts, but idles at like 200, almost dying. I also don't have my knock sensor plugged in because we had to custom make a harness ( yes ghetto ) so could my car not be starting because of no knock sensor? Or do i need a new ECU ? Also when we tried cranking the car with the chipped p28 and had the key in the "on" position, there was a ringing sound comming from the engine bay and if you pulled at the throttle cable the ringing became louder...i've never heard that before, what does that mean?
PLEASE help me!!!
