I'm waiting for my Mustang to get out of the shop so that I can tear into my Civic again and clean all this up!

I ended up cutting the end links off of the LCA's, they were completely f****d, the swaybar itself is kinda rusty, all surface though; I'm going to invest in some awesome sandpaper and spend a day working on my arm muscles lol.

Re: Build Thread -- Em1 restoration // Updating
It's a really fun car to restore/upgrade! It's got just enough of a touch of class and uniqueness to make it special.
My ultimate goal is to get everything mechanically sound and then finish it with a low boost supercharger.
That way maybe driving with the A/C on won't be such a drag at low RPMs lol...

FINALLY got the Rear right trailing arm off, I'm not going to mess with these bushings anylonger, if I can find a shop to push them out, I'm doing it...
Next step, reassembly of suspension and head gasket...

I found out my local CarQuest can and will do all my machine work for me.
Once i get the head removed I'm going to get the sucker decked and cleaned up; if the valves and everything is in good enough shape, I'm not going to rebuild it (for now).
They'll also take care of my bushing woes, hurray.

MAJOR progress was made today to say the least.
My buddy (who has more patience than me) came over and gave the press a go, needless to say there are 6 bushings that I can't do, the rest we've handled and managed to get removed properly.
When I started:
While he was working on that, I began disassembling the head, I'm 8 bolts away from having that sucker detached
I had gotten the air-box removed by this stage, obviously, the dizzy is gone, exhaust mani is gone and I'm working on the intake mani currently.
I managed to mangle where my rad connects to the upper coolant lines, I barely gripped this thing at all and it crumbled under my channel locks... looks like it's time for a new rad
Cut the **** outta myself... ouch

Going to scoop up my loose suspension bits and take them to the sand blaster today, my pops has access to a few and is going to help out
I hope to make good use of the enamel black paint I purchased to prevent these babys from rusting anymore!
Silly question for you guys who have owned your civic for awhile, when your under the car and find a lightly rusted or heavily rusted bolt for lets say a part you never have removed or will likely never remove, do you replace it for the sake of replacing it? or just leave it for another day?

Ok
Not sure what the results of my pulled head yeild, other than ... mixed.
First things first, the pistons.
Next, the worst of the valves
and the head gasket (it's dirrrrty)
So ... from some of the more seasoned experts... do I replace the valves, springs, guides and retainers?
Do I just pull the entire block // tranny, give it a good cleaning and have it ALL refreshed (not against, just didn't want to)??

Re: Build Thread -- Em1 restoration // Updating
Before I start a project I always get all the replacement bolts ready. For some reason I've been into replacing everything with stainless hexhead bolts though. Same length and thread pitch of course complete with lock washers and anti-seize. Even if I am not working on a part of the car, If I see it rusted like that I try to get proactive. It always bites you in the end.
And for you? If you're really restoring it, you should do that without question.

You're right on that, the sheer amount of them I've seen though is staggering, It's not a deterrence really, it just gets expensive quick lol
I think once I've got it down on all fours again and running (properly) I'm going to start addressing all of these rusty bolts; that is unless they're impossible to reach otherwise.
Ultimately, a good hunk of these brackets and retainers aren't rusted completely though, I may see about scraping it all off and coating them in a rust proofing enamel paint I've got, given it will change the look of the part, but it will prevent rust in the future.
