Default Bought a "built" d series 00 civic - Anyway to verify?

Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum, so I bought a 2000 civic yesterday that is supposed to handle 15 pounds of boost. Is there anyway I can check before I add it and just blow everything up? He said the block and head were both built but the injectors are stock and by check I mean without taking the engine apart.

post pics of this "hella built engine" if the injectors are stock I'm willing to bet so is the rest.... OP you got "had" if you paid for a built engine... injectors are one of the limiting factors of the engine's ability to produce high HP numbers. let me guess the turbo came in a "kit" for around 800$

Why would you buy a car you know nothing about?

First off, "15 pounds" is an absolutely worthless metric. 15 pounds through what? 15 PSI through, say, a T10 would be a joke. 15 pounds through a GT75 would leave you with pistons on the pavement. Does that mean it was built to run with my 15 pound boots sitting on the valve cover? Seriously, the person who told you that knows approximately nothing.

Side note: Stock injectors can't handle 15 pounds through anything (other than the boot option, I'm sure that would be safe). At least, not without cranking up the fuel pressure, but then you're digging into a whole different can of worms.

As for seeing if it was actually built, and what might be in the motor, you can do two things. First off, remove the distributor and valve cover. Take clear pictures of the cam, as well as the cam end. Also, try to squeeze in a picture or two of the head bolts/studs to see if they were replaced or upgraded. Second, remove the oil pan and windage tray so you can see the crank, rods, and bottom of the pistons. Once again, take clear pictures of all of the above. It won't be as definitive as pulling the motor apart to see what's inside, but it'll be a lot less invasive. For the valve cover, you'll only need to remove a handful of acorn nuts, and three bolts on the distributor. For the bottom end, you'll be removing about 15 10mm nuts/bolts.

This would all be a lot easier if you had asked the PO (previous owner) to prove what he said with receipts from the shop that did the rebuild. I personally wouldn't trust a motor rebuilt by a guy who just says "it can handle 15 pounds", though. If they don't understand turbo 101, the chances of them also understanding things like bearing and P2W clearances (and why certain parts in a motor should never be reused) begin to get thinner.

do you have contact information for the shop that 'built' this motor or does he claim DIY?

We've probably have made the OP feel just fabulous bout now so I'm shutting this thread down.

@OP You have some answers as to how you can proceed to see if aftermarket parts are in your car you just bought. And you can get it verified by posting the pictures here. Please send me a PM if you have the clear high resolution pictures NotARacist suggested for you that you'd like to post. In the mean time, your thread is being locked so you don't have to see any more abuse. Welcome to being human mate, we all make mistakes from time to time, don't let these guys get to you.

Cheers.

By request of OP, thread is reopened. Pics to come once snow permits.Oh and what I forgot to say the first time.... Welcome to Honda-Tech may it be as fruitful to you as it has been to many of us.

Cheers, again.

Guys I didn't pay an extreme amount for this car. All it needed was a front bumper and I got it for $1500. All he said was the previous owner was going to use it as a drag car and built the block and the head.

There's a lot more that comes into play with "was it a good buy", and there's a value sticky you can use if you're curious about that.

If you still want to know how "built" the motor is, do what I said above and we'll see what we can figure out with you.

Images are probably the best bet, in all of this then everyone can tell you, pretty sure people here on the forums know if its stock or not.

OP, if you really want to check the internal parts then your going to at least have to drop the oil pan and take off the valve cover to get somewhat of an idea you have. Don't plan on it for only paying $1500 but you never know until you check and verify.
