Default best turbo options for daily driver

hey gang. its me again. i was just wondering if someone could give me some insight or suggestion on my not-yet-definite turbo upgrade. I have a 97 lx with stock d16y7. i want to add some boost but keep it daily. i was thinking the best thing for me is to purchase each part one at a time since budget is kinda tight. looking for maybe some info on which turbo size/type works best with this engine, best boost psi, etc. or even if a supercgarger would be better since reliabitity is a must for me. thanks in advance

go with a JRSC if reliability is a must don;t go turbo. to much to mess with and to much to go wronge.

but if u must go turbo just get a standard Greddy kit. its mostly a bolt on affair, and will keep u fairly reliable.

is there anything i should look into first before a sc? such as: how does the d16 respond to boost, and is there anything that i should buy first like headers, new ignition, etc before adding boost?

If you are going to supercharge your car, you can buy an aftermarket header if you want. Tuning plays a big part in reliability. Believe it or not.. you can blow your motor at 3psi.

Check out http://www.turbod16.com. You might find the best answers there since they are dedicated to FI D16s.

BTW, ask not how much boost a motor can handle but how much horsepower a motor can handle. Different sized turbos will create different amounts of horsepower per pound of boost.

I will tell you now I love boost, because of all the perks. But if you go boost keep it at around 5-7psi(max), higher psi could blow you engine(especially on a daily drive car). I heard Greddy kits are 50 state legal, and are good turbos go with them

yeah from what ive researched and read,(thats about every article about turbos and superchargers that there are) i understood that 7-8 psi was the max boost that could be safely run on a stock engine. but is there anything that i could do to reinforce the engine for more boost? i really dont want to do an engine swap since thats what everyone else does, so if theres anything i could do to the stock block and head and such, that would be great . i hate to sound like a noob but i havent been introduced to fi for too terribly long. thanks again guys

This is simply not true...like said above, 3psi could blow your engine without proper tunning...but with proper tuning:

"With currently available fuels, 7 to 12 psi boost is a practical upper limit for stock engines (at sea-level elevation)." - Corky Bell, Maximum Boost.

Again, don't think in terms of psi...

Well since I read all about turbos(Thinking of putting a homemade one on myself, got tons of info). I would recommend you upgrade the fuel pump, fuel injectors, cam gears, clutch, and get a really good boost management(sorry brain fart, can't think of the technical name). But Greddy's boost management sucks, from a friends experience.

Other than that it would let you boost a little higher and give you a little more horsepower/torque=fun. Oh yah, and maybe some msd ignition stuff(do a search on the right one though). Hmm... can't think of anything else at the moment. I'll psot more if I remember.
