are you absolutely sure that honda oem motor oil is mobil one fully synthetic motor oil? b/c at $2.90/qt. that would be the deal of the century!
i think honda oem oil could be mobil drive clean but not mobil one.

It's mobil1 from what I remember, but not synthetic. Hell, I might be confused though.

Perhaps it's only mobil oil then, as Mobil 1 is synthetic
to Mobil 1. I've used it in every car I've owned. The rest of the car could be falling apart, but it still would be purring like a kitten. Beautiful stuff.

Use 5W-30 or 10W-30.

The back of my Honda oil says Exxon. what up with that.
I use 5w-30 Castrol GTX or Valvoline 5w-30. doesnt burn up at high rpm's as much as Mobil 1 synthetic or regular. tried both.
a friend of mine runs 20w-50, i dont know about that. is that OK?

ExxonMobil is the name of the parent company. They make all Exxon and Mobil branded products.
20W-50 won't really harm your engine unless you live in a cold climate area, because it does not flow as freely when cold as an oil with lower viscosity can. Lower viscosity oils will reach the valvetrain sooner during cold starts. The 20W-50 also would decrease your fuel economy slightly.
Mobil 1 does tend to burn off quickly because it is so thin. I would suggest a different oil for Hondas that burn a lot of oil.

Re: Best oil for vtec? (redcivicgsr)
I generally use mobil 1...
HOWEVER... I used redline a couple times and it's TOTALLY night and day better than mobile 1... I couldn't believe it... it felt like the difference from going from conventional oil to synthetic all over again... the engine reved MUCH smoother and easier... especially up top...
That oil is sick... if you have money to floss mugen wheels or something else rediculouslsy expensive...
I see it like this... if you're actually treating your car like an "investment"... then I'd be "investing" in the BEST possible oil...
I'm poor with kids so the redline is only in my tranny now... but when I start making better money I will start using redline again... that stuff is sick... imo.
Also as far as Mobil 1... there is some debate to it's current quality... I've been using it since it FIRST came out... and it was MUCH bette before... there was some sort of issue with the additive lasting TOO long... so the reformulated and the newer one allegedly breaks down faster... not too big a deal if you still change it every 3k or so... but my oil for one looks MUCH worse after 2-3k then it used too... (and I'm guaging it against both a different car with almost identical miles I used to own using the old mobil 1 as well as how good the redline looks after 4k much less 2-3 compared to the new mobil 1.)
I still use it but I think I'd rather get some texaco synthetic... I used to use that too and it was really good.... couldn't really tell too much of a difference back then between it and old mobil 1... I haven't used it in my civic yet...

Which, according to the numbers, is actually AMSOIL.
You should try GM Synchromesh transmission fluid also. Good stuff

Re: Best oil for vtec? (tfalconier)
i use redline 10/40 for my turbonium
i love redline , ived used everything in the book and my top three in order are :
amsoil
redline(close second)
royal purple(close third)
ive noticed that redline looks blacker quicker than the others . but i agree 100% if you have 2000 dollars to spend on your rims you can spend 50 dollars every 3 months on nice oil and a filter.

Re: Best oil for vtec? (The Muffin Man)
I know Crower discourages sythentic use..and there's no need to change your oil every 1000 miles or whatever, oil is always good til 5, synthetic 7 or more thousand. Don't let advertising fool you into changing your oil every other week. Rediculous. Such a waste
