Ball Joint and tie rod boot questions
For ball joint replacement is an electric or air impact wrench a must?
For the tie rod (inner) boot does the inner and outer need to be separated to remove and replace the boot? Is the Raybestos brand ($20 each) a quality boot and if not what is OEM?

1st neither is needed but air gun over electric heck hand tools over electric the knuckle needs to come off so I'd say an impact gun helps a lot. look up tierod replacement I can't remember where it is or I'd find/post it for you(the DIY).

JUST did this, and yes it does. OEM aren't too pricey. Look on www.hondapartsunlimited.com
Get the outer spring clips and the inner boot bands as well. DS and PS are different boots and bands due to the size of the rack being slightly bigger on the one side.
You MUST install the spring clip on the boot BEFORE installing the boot on the tie rod/rack. If you forget to do this save yourself some time and use a ziptie tightly secured instead of taking the boot back off and ruining the boot band (Yes I forgot the clamp on one side LOL).

Re: Ball Joint and tie rod boot questions
Thanks for all the replies. Found this video
which seems to detail it well. Cool, OEM http://www.hondapartsunlimited.com/o.../53534-sr3-n52 is cheaper than Ryabestos.
I will borrow a U-clamp from Autozone. Unfortunately, I don't have an impact wrench, but I do have a breaker bar and extension pipe that handles (no pun intended) most situations.

Why do you need a 3/4 or 1inch drive
a 1/2 inch is fine along with an axle socket.
use foot on a breaker bar and it comes right off why is that Axel nut on that tight to need such a large drive

Re: Ball Joint and tie rod boot questions
I am not too concerned of my aptitude towards the repair more than I am concerned if the ball joint's bolt starts to spin when I try to remove it with a regular socket drive. As you know at least 50% of wrenching on cars is having
the proper tools. Unfortunately, I don't have an air or electric impact drive gun at this point if the bolt spins as stated above.
So, I am predicting that as long as I can get the nut off the ball joint without issue and I don't need an air or electric impact wrench to help press the ball joint in place that I will most likely be successful in the repair. Worth a try first and if I can't than to a mechanic it will go or I'll break down and buy a decent air drive setup.
