backfire when racing.
Stock-ish d16z6.
Brand new dizzy, about 3 months old.
NGK spark plugs, about a year and a half old (but only about 11k miles on them).
NGK wires, only a month old.
Intake/Header/Exhaust
Magnaflow High Flow Catalytic Converter.
Stock Oxygen Sensor (brand new though, like less then 1k miles old).
95-00 Honda SI Fuel Pump. (195lph? not sure, friend gave it to me when my old one died)
When racing, aka high rpm, their is a backfire. So say I'm high rpm 3rd braking, and then back to throttle again, it will backfire.
When I drive like a normal person (lol) it doesn't back fire.
Any ideas? I'm thinking spark plugs, they are cheap (like 3-4 bucks a piece NGK) so I might just replace them anyway. Injector cleaner was ran about a year and a half ago because throttle response was very poor, cleaning it fixed that. It runs great. It ran a 15.9 at the track when I first got it and its DEFINITELY faster now. I'm just stumped. Should I be worried about this back fire under racing conditions? or its just because I am racing?

Re: backfire when racing.
I have the exact same drivetrain in my 95 ex, but no popping yet..and I think what you're talking about is called "after-fire." A back fire is a rapid expansion of gases into the intake tract and throttle body when cam/ignition timing are off by a considerable margin, while and an after-fire is something that happens in the exhaust AFTER the burn takes place; when un-burnt hydrocarbons (gas/air) are flowing through a superhot pipe and spontaneously combust. So when you let off for breaking while she's revvin down from the clouds and you get on it again, there are some unburnt air/fuel molecules hitting the 400+ degree tubing and making the popping noises we all love so dearly. This is the reason we see burnt rear bumpers and riveted titanium plates directly over exhaust tips...I'd say you're safe, and the after-fire is one of those Easter eggs we get when drive 'em at the limit ..its nice to hear someone actually drivin it like you stole it lmao...just watch out when/if you run race gas..ya might wanna install an ignition box to get better burn in the combustion chamber. Oh and back to your spark plugs, ya might wanna change em out, they might get you more burn and less boom

Re: backfire when racing.
I guess I forgot to mention my 2.5" skunk2 exhaust that sounds like sex.
Yeah tonight Some guy in a SUV wanted to play so I burnt him doing like 120 hahahahahah. I was a good unwind for me after the **** i went through today.
"Sleeper95ej" If what you say is true, then I have nothing to worry about? Its definately "after fire" (after you let go or get on the throttle) I do drive pretty hardcore sometimes. I want to get into amateur racing and maybe go pro. I've been slowly working on my car getting it ready for the first track day (either this summer or next depending on what i get installed). And yeah, I changed out my sparky's today (ngk plats) normal heat range, and it still "after fires" but it needed it. The old sparkys were about 8 or 9k miles old, and when I took them out, they were ashy as hell and the tops where my old MSD plugs used to be on were burnt out on 3. My new sparky wires (ngk) probably wont do that to them like the MSD. (although ive ran both MSD and the NGK on those plugs). It runs nice. I've yet to hit my rev limit though. I went up to 120 today and it kept going, but i had to slow down (please not that was NOT downhill XD)
to "15wikCed13" its 2.5" off the motor (the exhaust mani) and then 2.5" cat (its a high flow, I know awesome right? still passes emissions :D) and then 2.5" exhaust by skunk2. so it should be good from what you said?
So I'm guessing everything is okay with it then. Now I just need to find some amber corners since mine decided to come apart (400grit, 800grit, 2000grit on the front headlight, then clear coat removes oxidization and makes them like new again.) When I pulled my head lights out, the side corners need to be moved out the way. Barely even tugged on them and the covers came off, so not its just a bulb in a case open to the environment (luckily its supposed to be dry all week)
Anyone got an idea where to get some amber corners from a trusted site (please no ebay)

Re: backfire when racing.
here's a lesson for you.
92-95 SI have a different motor then the 96-00 SI. they will also vary in parts. there are different generations of honda's. this website throws 92-95 and 96-00 together for some reason.
