Default B16A Over-Heating and Coolant leaking from oil pan--HELP!!!!----

yeah i have a 1997 hatch with OBD1 B16A and the car has over heated before (05/16/08) and as soon as I saw it i killed it and then i replaced coolant and thermostat.. then the car started running kind of sluggish like as if the distributor is only working at half capacity...it only runs sluggish under 3000rpms and then its fine..well anyways it overheated tonight (05/22/08) and then i was looking for any leaks and i saw a little bit coolant dripping from the oil pan right where the crank pulley is at...I dont if this has anything to do with it but the grey clip that goes to the VTEC sylanoid is not connected cause the wires oxidized over and disconnected from the clip...also I dont know for sure but my oil dipstick might of had some water on it tried to check it but the car was cooled off by time i got to check it....the fan works and i dont see any leaks on my radiator and the thermostat is fine .....im thinking its the headgasket or the water pump. so any help would be greatly appreciated.....

okay i had a similar problem. take your oil cap off from the valve cover. if you see a milky creamy residue...you got a blown head gasket. yeah i spent 1200 repairing it =/ but on a good note...since they had the head off i added a whole new valve train and cams and port and polish ^_^. i hope for the best for you. if you dont have any residue check your hoses for raidator.

are you guys serious? "IT'S A BLOWN HEAD GASKET!!"? For sure? You can E-fix a car with THAT much certainty?

The problem is probably that your water pump has gone out. There is a weep hole for when the water pump wears out. The coolant will come out of the weep hole and leak from the timing belt cover area by the crank pulley.

If the head gasket was blown, and there was coolant in the oil...why would it start leaking all of a sudden? Think!! There's a gasket holding all the oil in. No matter if the oil is green, brown, yellow or blue, the oil is still a liquid that is contained by a gasket. Coolant is a liquid. Mix coolant with oil....STILL A LIQUID. If the gasket was meant to contain a liquid...and coolant/oil mix is a liquid...it'll probably be contained. Unless in a crazy coicidence, the oil pan gasket blew at the same time as the head gasket blowing. Then it's an act of God.

The OP said nothing about a misfire or a large puff of smoke coming out of his exhaust...which would be a pretty obvious condition.

Op: Steps to take:

1.) Check the condition of the oil. Is it milky?
2.) Check the condition of your coolant. Does it still look like coolant or is it bubbly and mixed with oil?

A blown head gasket will make the oil milky and weird grayish. The coolant will do the same and be bubbly. Since the coolant level is low, it's probably bubbly anyway.

The spark plugs and exhaust side of the engine will be very clean.

The exhaust will have a sweet smell. There would have been a BIG white puff of **** coming out of your exhaust when the headgasket first blew. Did that happen?

Is your car misfiring?

If none of those are correct...then your head gasket is probably fine.

Take off the valve cover. Check the inside of it. Where the T-belt sits, there should be coolant splashed around everywhere. If that's the issue, you probably have a bad water pump.

This happens to JDM pumps for some reason. Even if they dont have a lot of miles on them, if they were mis handled or just stored for too long or had some sort of other issue, the wax pellet wears out and the coolant comes out of the weep hole.

This may be a good time to do a T belt and water pump.

Good luck.
