Any way to ghetto rig my hood to close?
I'm so pissed, I spent like the whole day trying to get my hood to close and it woudln't go. Basically the car was involved in a very very very small front end collision, but now the hood only closes on that first click, not fully. Basically, you know your hood is closed, then you pull the little tab to open it, and it's still locked until you open the latch on the hood? Basically it always stays in that position... so it's not fully open, but not locked properly either... I don't really feel safe driving it on the highway heh.
Anyways, basically the front bumper got pushed back a bit, so the hood latch thing is JUST too far back for it to lock the hood. Honestly if I could move it forward just like the width of your pinky it would be okay. But I tried EVERYTHING and I can't.
First I undid the latch, and I was going to throw some washers as spacers to move the actual latch on the front bumper a bit forward. But there's not much room to work with and I got a couple washers under there but it wasn't enough.
So... I thought I would undo the hood, and move it back a bit, but it moved liek 1/10th of an inch and accomplished nothing, and now it looks like *** because it's not aligned perfectly anymore heh.
So.... then I tried smacking the actual part that goes in the lock on the hood, the one that's shaped like |___| ... I hit it with a hammer many many times to try to bend it back just a bit, but it wouldn't budge It appears to be made of very hard metal...
So..... any tips? I really have no idea, I just need to move the hood back a bit, but I can't This is my hardcore beater and she's an ugly duckling so there is no way I'm going to pay a body shop to do it or anything... but I don't know what else to do
Thanks

Get a rope and tie one end to your radiator and the other end to something like a street light pot. Worked for my brother when he got a very minor accident.

if you know someone who owns a truck with a winch, you can pull it back into place. my friend used that method to fix his jeep bumper support after he hit a brick wall and it worked like a charm. otherwise i would just tie it with some rope for now

You could oval out the mounting holes some more with a large drill bit, that might get you enough adjustment to get it to fully latch. Or like he said...^...hood pins. Summit racing used to sell locking ones so you don't have to worry about anything under your hood getting jacked. I bought mine about 3 years ago, don't know if they still have them.

2015 honda fit front end minor collision, replaced all parts, tried loosening (and oval drilling) hood bracket screws to align but latch still not locking.
everything ( plastic) is about 1 inch off but made it fit together. Question: can a mechanic cut and weld the hook on hood to make fit into latch to lock?
Thx
