HELLO ALL. I'VE DONE SOME READING ABOUT REPLACING THE STOCK HONDA STEERING WHEEL WITH A DETACHABLE STEERING WHEEL, SUCH AS MOMO. MY STOCK STEERING WHEEL IS STAINED IN PLACES AND I CAN'T GET IT OFF, THE AIRBAG COVER IS NOT LINED UP, SO I'M JUST LIKE MEH, WHATEVER, 60 BUCKS AND A NICER WHEEL DOESN'T SOUND BAD TO ME. MY QUESTION IS, THE VIDEOS/TUTORIALS THAT I WATCHED WERE ONLY FOR THE NON-AIRBAG CIVICS. THEY SAID THE PROCEDURE WAS DIFFERENT. IS THERE A WAY TO SAFELY REMOVE THE AIRBAG FROM THE STEERING WHEEL WITHOUT IT BLOWING MY HEAD OFF? IT IS 18 YEARS OLD AND I'M NOT EVEN SURE IT IS FUNCTIONAL. DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY PRECAUTIONS FOR THIS? PLEASE, PLEASE, ONLY PEOPLE WITH EXPERIENCE WITH STEERING WHEEL REPLACEMENTS. NO BULLCRAP POSTS.

un hook the battery and remove the wheel. never attempt to do any work on air bags or steering wheel air bags with the battery still hooked up, BATTERY MUST BE UN HOOKED!

install new hub followed by install the new wheel.

oem steering wheels from JDM hondas are a nice replacement. such as 92 00 civic OEM non air bag wheel. Or maybe a grip royal, momo, etc

This thread is for 6th gen civics but it tells you how to turn the srs light off with the install and yes it will be on if you dont use a resistor. Im sure its similar to your 5th gen car

oook... yes the air bag light will be on, NO cel will be on though,

remove the gauge cluster and remove the air bag light. keep in mind that by removing the drivers side air bag will disable the passenger side bag as well

I hope you're buying a reputable brand wheel and not some egay knock off! Ive seen these bend. Also I hope your resigned to the idea of no more cruise control...unless you plan to retrofit.

SOUNDS BAD TO ME.

Please get a quality wheel and hub, especially if you get a quick release. I've seen cheap quick releases come off mid turn

Expect to pay more than $60.

I recently did my steering wheel. I just replaced an old worn out one with a great condition used one (OEM). There is a shorting jumper stored in the plastic cover of your steering wheel. The factory manual calls for the jumper to be installed on the airbag connector before removal. The whole process takes about 20 minutes to remove.

The same wheel you have was also made for Acura with a factory leather wrap. A good quality use done can be had for what you would pay for the cheap ebay wheel and hub. AND you will retain your cruise controls.

No need for a manual. There are a half dozen good write-ups all over the net on how to swap out a steering wheel. A quick Google search would have found one. If you can't find one lemme know so I can get you the link in 10 seconds or less.

$60... it cost me over $500 for the nrg hub adapter, nrg quick release and Personal wheel!!! If you can't afford to do it right, don't do it!!! Do you want to take the chance of it breaking while driving interstate speed?

As far as a DIY. Not even needed, IMO. It was very simple and straight forward. Only hard part is rigging the horn to work.

I wanted to keep my cc so I swapped my EM1 wheel with an AP2 wheel. Bolts right in minus some wiring for the cc buttons but I'm satisfied with the results.

I have a Mugen wheel, had to relocate my Cruise Control buttons to the center console. Totally not safe, but it was a quick fix for my trip home tomorrow.

I don't have cruise control anyway. The last owner swapped out the autobox with a 5 speed and didn't hook it up. I'm not worried about that. And I aint buying ebay brand. Probably Momo or something of the like. And it sucks that the passenger airbag also is deactivated. I wonder why that is...

Well im glad your planning on buying decent parts but your not gonna buy them for 60 bucks bud. airbags are overrated and with the age of your car they may not work as intended. Just make sure your seat belts work.

#1. Nobody has mentioned the access panel on the underside of the steering wheel plastics to unclip the harness and the RED protective insert that's stored in there to prevent accidentally triggering it. This should be the second thing you do after disconnecting the battery.

#2. Be prepared with a TORX bit when removing the airbag and be careful because they can be easy to strip.

#3. You can reactivate the p/s airbag by inserting a resistor somewhere within the wiring of the system ... not my expertise so Google it.

#4. Was pretty sure this is a troll post due to the ridiculous poll and the ALL-CAPS in the OP ... however I am willing to be proved wrong.

#5. There is an airbag delete plate that was only available in the Canadian market that fits these 4-spoke steering wheels.

No. You didn't search. Give me 10 seconds and I can find you at least two that also show how to wire up the horn AND cruise control afterwards.
