98 Civic EX b16b idling problem
98 civic b16b swap, i've got a lot worked out but having a weird issue. I do have the jdm ECM in as well fyi. I'm not getting a cel or anything, but when the engine is cold the car starts to lose rpms, then almost die, but catch itself at the last second or I just rev it a little to get it to stop. It will do this till the car has completely warmed up. Any ideas or questions are welcomed, thanks.

Sorry, i'm mixing up abbreviations here. I am using the ecu from what I was told a 97 civic type r. I bought a complete engine and transmission with ecu, mugen headers, axles, and shift linkage all from the same front clip.

cleaned the IACV+FTIV(if applicable) also have you bled the coolant system ? when you remove the iacv you're letting air into it.

Check ignition timing, set it via service manual instructions.
Adjust idle screw per same way.
Check MAP sensor.
Check for vacuum leaks.
A couple things off the top of my head, I dont know what you have already done...

I bought this civic ex used, no manual, even if i had one...would it be done the same on this b16b engine? I an kind of baffled why the problem goes away once it's close to operating temp. Does it change your suggestions at all knowing that bit? If it were vacuum or map wouldn't it just keep doing it even if it were warmed up?

I'm at work so i can't try any of this today anyway, besides it is freaking hot here in Texas, and i have no garage to work in. I read in another post you can soak the iacv. And excuse my ignorance, but what is the ftiv? I'm learning a lot with this engine swap, but not quite enough just yet i guess.

no I still recommend what I said in my first post. if you don't know how to google how to clean iacv and fitv....you'll find it in the integra FAQ section. here is what the fitv looks like you may not have on your car.

Re: 98 Civic EX b16b idling problem
Just finished troubleshooting the iacv at 12:30am. I took the thing off, cleaned it - due to the gunk, and partial clog in the screen - and still had the same issue. When I put it back in and saw what seemed like just a small scrap on the hose, installed it anyway. Well, needles to say, the hose then popped. Upon closer inspection I found coolant had been leaking before anyway when I twisted the hose around and checked a little further down. At this point of night I opted to just cut part of the hose and used a metal coupler and some extra hose, and clamps. Put it back together, no leaks - same problem with the idle until it warmed up to operating temp. I then remembered the $175 iacv I bought for the original d16y8 engine. Now, the numbers didn't match up, but it was exactly the same. For anyone searching, the 1998 honda civic d16y8 denso iacv is the same as the jdm 1997 honda civic b16b type r iacv. I'll add the part numbers tomorrow. Although the original problem still exist, im glad I caught the leak sitting in front of my house rather than out on the highway an hour away from home in 104 degree Texas heat. So, a couple things down, a couple more to go...or less hopefully. Feedback?

Re: 98 Civic EX b16b idling problem
Ok, so an update. First thing this morning, I still had the same idling issue. On lunch I went to get a soda from the gas station down the street, still the same idling issue. Now, after work, I sat and let it idle....oh wait, no, could it be! The car did not loose idle and almost, not once. A few things I noticed. For one the car is idling higher - just a bit - on warming. Two, the car warms up a hell of a lot faster - like twice as fast. Three, the car is idling a 100 to 200 rpms higher than before. Now I think I understand how all this works, glad to have seen success, or so it seems at fixing this issue. But... Anyone care to splain why, just for ***** and giggles?

Damnit, tested it this morning and the issue persist. Now, it is cooler, not that much though, and more humid this morning. I did notice that it was taking longer to warm up, and then about a quarter warm the car was trying to even out - it always revs idle when cold - and the rpms started to drop, then just fell off and almost died. It does catch itself and rev high then start dropping, then fall out again, it does this til it gets about operating temp.
