93 dx d16z6 tps map sensor issues
car is a 93 civic dx hatchback manual
engine is a d16z6 using d16z6 engine harness and 5spd p28
everything starts and works after swapping engine but getting cels for code 3 and 7 (map and tps) prior swapping the d16z6 engine out of the other car it had 0 cel/check engine light. 02 sensor and vtec is wired correctly etc. ive checked to see if i got the tps and map plugs switched but seems to be right. Question is, how do i check the wiring from the plugs to the ecu to make sure they are in the correct place to the ecu. prior the hatch had a gsr in it. the sensors should be working because they were fine before the swap and are not damaged. please help!

Which MAP plug did you use? You need to use the one going to the firewall mounted MAP sensor, simply unplug it and plug it into the MAP on the top of the throttlebody.

im using the map sensor plug off of the d16z6 harness. i dont see any firewall map sensor plug. the swap, harness everything COMPLETE is out of a running 94 civic ex with no cels.

'92 - '93 DX/LX models only (as well as CXs and EXs sold in Canada) have the firewall plug as part of seperate harness that runs straight from the ECU through the firewall to a Firewall mounted MAP sensor that's bolted to the fuel filter bracket.

Unless you used the cabin harness from the EX too the MAP sensor plug on the engine harness goes to nowhere. It stops at the shock tower plugs, the wiring isn't there on the other side of the plug.

i will test continuity from the tps/map sensor plugs to the shock tower and test it to the ecu plugs and see what i have. so your saying i may have to hard wire the map sensor since it the.harness shouldve been mounted on the firewall from factory? weird because when the gsr was in there it was running good with no cel besides the vss.

I really have no explanation for that.

I understand the firewall map senor and I think I've seen it before, it defenintly does not have the firewall map sensor plug. IDK where the heck it's at, probably the previous owner ripped it out or something. I will test the only map sensor plug I have from the d16z6 engine harness and see what it reads, same with the tps in the morning. It's the middle wire that's supposed to read at 5v?

Yes... just take you multimeter and ground straight to the battery... remember though, with the TPS plugged in you should get around .5 volts and 4.5 to 5 at WOT (wide open throttle)

Re: 93 dx d16z6 tps map sensor issues
Okay, I tested continuity from the tps/map plugs to the ecu and all are connected as followed from left to right as if you were plugging it in:
MAP= Left wire (yel/red) to ecu (yel/grn) D19 VCC1 sensor voltage for Map (reads at 0.00)
Middle wire (grn/white) to ecu (blu/grn) D21 sensor ground (reads at 0.00)
Right wire (wht) to ecu (pnk/wht) D17 Map sensor (reads at 0.00)
TPS= Left wire (grn/wht) to ecu (grn/wht) D22 SG2 sensor ground (reads at 0.01)
Middle wire (red/blu) to ecu (pnk/blk) D11 TPS (reads at 0.00)
Right wire (yel/wht) to ecu (yel/wht) D20 VCC2 sensor voltage for TPS (reads at 4.89)
Does the wiring seem right? When I tested each wire I put the key on and grounded the other and that's what it read. I'm not sure if I'm doing this right or not. LMK what you guys think and suggest. Thanks

Re: 93 dx d16z6 tps map sensor issues
??? Well can anyone else lmk how to properly test the map/tps? I am trying to get this car running with no cel asap. Also can an intake manifold/tb vacuum leak cause these codes to come up?
Also is my wiring from my plugs to the ecu correct? Thanks

Re: 93 dx d16z6 tps map sensor issues
***update***
I got a known working d16z6 throttle body with map/tps sensors for $30 with tb gasket. I also replaced all vacuum lines and made sure they were in correct order. After resetting the ecu I cranked the car over and starts right away but CEL jumps on right away. So I check the cel and it's just code 3 for map sensor. At least the code 7 tps sensor went away.
So I check the map plug (while connected key in II position)and here's what came out:
Left wire (yel/red)=4.89 D19
Middle wire (grn/wht)=0.01 D21
Right wire (wht)=0.09 D17

Re: 93 dx d16z6 tps map sensor issues
i also changed the im gasket and still no luck. the rpm fluctuates up and down between 1300-1700rpms. i will see if i can find a short, idk
it has continuity from the plug to the ecu, trying to find a short. when testing what voltage on the volt meter what should i be using? like 12v, 9v, 6v, 1.5v im getting different readings on each setting.

Re: 93 dx d16z6 tps map sensor issues
all the wiring seems to be fine, idk whatelse to do. When the car is running the idlw lopes and when i unplug the plug from the map sensor idle does not change at all. will the evap sensor, iacv, iat having anything to do with this? when the engine was in the other car it was running fine with no cels! does my wiring seem to be going to the right pins from the map to ecu?
please help! i dont know what else to do

Re: 93 dx d16z6 tps map sensor issues
on my volt meter what voltage should i test it with? 12v, 9v, 6v, or 1.5v ?? i get different readings on each. just run the wire back and check for any breaks etc?

Re: 93 dx d16z6 tps map sensor issues
Are you using a digital multimeter? You should be as an analog voltmeter could damage the ECU.
