Can you? Yes. Any Honda engine can be shoehorned into our chassis.
Would it be worth your time?
****. No.
For starters, you would have to figure out how to fabricate custom mounts for it - there is no shelf kit that I'm aware of. Then you would have to figure out how to fit the transmission in there - 7G Civic transmissions are completely different than 5/6G transmissions, and require different mounting and axles. Even if you did manage to get a D17A2 to fit and run, what's the point? Stock, it makes just as much power as a D16Z6. There's just no logical reason to do it.

Someone did do it but it wasn't for the reasons you are thinking. You will need to get it tuned, some modifications to get the manifold to fit. Also mounted up to the transmission.
