20% tint on windshield

20% tint on windshield
In order to compensate for what I thought was tint that looked too light on the side windows and back window(20%)...I put 20% on the windshield in order to make it look darker. It seems a tad bit dark at night, but my saving grace is that I live in N.Y.C. and not the woods. In hindsight, I probably should've just tinted the side and back windows 5% and left the windshield alone. Nevertheless, although I may be considered a bit crazy, stupid, mentally handicapped, etc...I haven't had an issue since. And it also makes you more aware(even though I'm a defensive driver as it is).
I suppose it will only cause a problem in snow/rain storms, and when I decide to drive in the countryside(i.e. driving down to Fl. on I-95--even though then I could probably do it). Anyway, any comments on my the topic at hand?

You may blind or injure an innocent motorist. Peel that **** off right away. If you MUST tint your windshield do 50-70%. Tinting the windshield no matter what is illegal.

Re: 20% tint on windshield
Of course they do. I just recently got the front windshield tinted(my inspection actually expired about a month ago), but I get my car inspected at my father's yellow taxi garage. But anyway, I'm giving out too much info for simply wanting to possibly find other people who have done the same, or like the 94preludeguy--receive hate mail.

Re: 20% tint on windshield
i agree with 94preludeguy. peel the tint off the windshield. i got pulled over by state trooper in Louisiana when i borrowed my friend's car because my car was in the shop. he had the 20% tint all way around. cops made me rip off the windshield tint and gave me a $220 ticket. they also try to give me a ticket for the 2 front window... good thing the front window was rolled down at the time.

I suppose I'm more so hoping to receive comments from those who do have 20% on their windshield and their experiences. Whatever the case, all comments are welcomed.
Oh, and if anyone is or knows someone that is in need of a 2000 Honda Civic 4dr tan front end(in the Tri-state area)...visit my other thread. Thanks.

Dusk and dawn are supposed to be the most accident prone times to drive. You live in a big city, at least give it some consideration.
I see no issue with a band of tint at the top of the windshield, however I even tore all the tint out of my last Civic and my girlfriend's car since it was a pain to see behind at night. Some laws are BS, but the laws for tint are legitimately meant to protect people.
And I'm not trying to be a smartass here, but what ever happened to sunglasses? A modest tint in the back to make the car look nicer and protect the interior is one thing. It's still easy enough to see out of, keeps it looking nice, and provides privacy. When it's bright out, just wear some sunglasses....

Re: 20% tint on windshield
Actually in Hawaii you are allowed to tint your windshield to 70% regardless tinting it to 20% is stupid and I hope you learn your lesson by hitting a tire chunk in the middle of the road before hitting a cat, dog or even a person.

Re: 20% tint on windshield
God willing, and due to my own actions I will never have an issue where I put something or someone in jeopardy of being maimed. Like I said, if it were to get to that point, I'd just peel it off. But, feel free to notify me when that one guy tints his windshield 5%...I'll be then coming on here to call the kettle black...even though we wouldn't even be in the same league. From what I've experienced thus far, it's not that bad. Granted, you really shouldn't do it...

Re: 20% tint on windshield
so you are going to go drive in bad weather hoping you can see something? gee that seems fair to the other drivers and people who happen to be walking, may the person who you hit will sue the hell out of you because you tinted your WINDSHIELD, why not go drive around at night with dark sunglasses on,same thing

Re: 20% tint on windshield
That is overkill. I would take it off. My car has 35% on the sides, 20% on the back and sunroof and is plenty dark. I have a 5% strip on the windshield to the as1 line but anything after that is not really safe.

Re: 20% tint on windshield
So you're going to take the chance on waiting for something bad to potentially happen? That seems like a real smart move.
How is 70% a waste of money? Have you ever driven/ridden in a car with 50-70% tint on the front? It is actually quite nice and blocks out all the UV and keeps the car much cooler while giving you plenty of safe visibility. It's a shame the rest of the US isn't like Hawaii. Regardless I plan on doing 50 or 70 windshield tint fairly soon.
I am part of the "I have common sense" force. What you're doing is not only illegal, but an obstruction to your visibility therefore, not safe. Really everybody here is just trying to help you out from either wasting your money on having to remove it and pay a fine or even worse, hurting somebody because you didn't see them. Even if you're not at fault, more than likely an officer will issue a citation. If there's a wreck involving two parties and it's a he said she said, but only one person gets a citation, guess who's at fault? So even if you did nothing wrong yet you're the only one to receive a citation for your tint, you're screwed.

Re: 20% tint on windshield
70% actually isnt a waste, there are many different kinds of tint and uses outside of trying to make your car look good. a Good reflective polarized 70% tint does miracles in the sun of Hawaii. A tire chunk is a piece of tire from a vehicle that lost its tread, normally off of large trucks, not sure how you couldnt comprehend that and you will find them on highways across America.
There are stupid laws out there that you can break and get away with because they are BS then there are laws that have to be made even though breaking them it completely idiotic, kinda like those warnings on plastic bags telling you not to put them over your head.

Re: 20% tint on windshield
Tinted windshields are the norm in many countries to deter car jacking, and hinder other attacks on the vehicle.
