Build looks good but why did you make a blockoff for the IAT sensor? You stated IACV delete but looks like you deleted the Intake Air Temp Sensor instead. I don't recommend that.

Ah I see, just wanted to point it out in case you were unaware. Sounds like you have it under control!
Keep up the good work on your build!

I cleaned up any surface rust with a wire wheel. Everything else I either cleaned with a plastic brush, pressure wash, and/or whipped down with a rag to get off any dirt/debris. Surprisingly I didn't have to clean up much rust!

Sorry for the lack of updates lately! Nearly a month ago I tried a race with the local BMW club. A little bit of a different set up, but they never change their course so it lets you work on your times. Rolling starts and stops were a new one for me, but feel like I kept competitive dropping into a 50 second lap time. Had a great time and plan to head back out again this coming Monday. A few pictures from the stands and a couple videos from a friends goPro.
Having trouble embedding the video, Feel free to watch it here:

Re: 1999 Civic DX Hatch Build/Rebuild Thread
First things first, I want to say a big thanks to the Honda-Tech Facebook page. Somehow I completely missed them feature my build on their Facebook page. Feel very honoured for that, so thanks again!
Secondly, I hit up another track day on Monday. Had a great time, but really really really need to get my sway bars installed. For most higher speed corners I lifted onto three wheels. Woo hoo, fun... but probably not the fastest way around the track. No pictures or videos of the event, just a time sheet. I managed to squeak into a 50.5 second lap time. Still hoping to break into the 49s some day... Next track day is the 29th of August and apparently have a friend of a friend of a friend bringing a drone. So look forward to come mind blowing angles if that pans out!
Finally, got some more done on the engine. Installed new studs on the intake and exhaust sides of the head. Was going to just do a few studs and the rest bolts, but opted for all studs. Just kind of felt it would look cleaner. All studs are 8.8 grade, so hopefully that's strong enough? If not someone please tell me I'm a goof! Quite a few threads needed to be chased, just to clean them up. Mainly on the exhaust side. Speaking of the exhaust side, since these weren't OEM studs there was a slightly larger section un-theaded in the centre. Pair that with an after market DC header and I had made some extra work for myself. I threaded further down the stud before installing them. Which you can see by the shiny silver threads as compared to the black threads on the exhaust side. Installed the intake with the awesome thermal dam gasket. Followed by test fitting the exhaust head. Problem #2 with the new studs on the exhaust side, they were too long for the dip stick. Had to cut and grind to make every thing fit just right. Cleaned, painted, and re-installed the oil pan. New water pump, tensioner, cam gears, and timing belt. Also cleaned up the coolant passage that runs underneath the intake. Wire wheeled, cleaned, and painted.
That's it for now! Track day in a week~ish, exhaust header wrap, and cleaning up all the remaining engine components and brackets.

Re: 1999 Civic DX Hatch Build/Rebuild Thread
Beat my best time so far! Went from a 50.5 second lap time to a 50.3... not quite the high 49s I was hoping for. But progress is progress! A friend swapped me his 2015 Civic Si for one run. It was nice to feel power for a change, but I really struggled with a larger/heavier vehicle. I believe this will be my last track day for the season. Might try and sneak another in around Thanksgiving (Canadian thanksgiving ) but we'll see. Getting the itch to finish getting that engine together and installed. You'll also see from my pictures I get up on three wheels pretty easy in some of the higher speed corners. I also should apologize from the terrible picture quality for some of them. I stole a few pictures from other competitors Instagram and Facebook pages. Oh, also the drone was a no show! So no awesome pictures that way. Hope to get some more pictures of the engine and transmission in the near future, but I'm sure I'll keep you posted on all of that!

Awesome build! I just picked up a h22 ek hatch in good shape, I am really taking my time on every little detail. Very inspirational and giving me plenty of ideas.
Keep up the quality work!

Re: 1999 Civic DX Hatch Build/Rebuild Thread
OCD has kicked in lately and I have been cleaning engine accessory brackets. I started sand blasting them, but my sand blaster was running low on material to blast with and it made it an extreme pain in my butt. So I ended up just wire wheeling them. Which was ok, not great, but I guess ill survive... they are just brackets. Decided to go with the same gloss black as the intake. Debated on the same aluminum silver, or maybe a bright yellow to match the valve cover. Let me know what you think! Also bolted up the DC header, everything fit! Still need to wrap it, clean up the thermostat housing, and some other odds and ends. Might even go far enough to re loom the harness in the near future. But for now heres a few pics.

Now that this thread is dead, I figured i would revive it with some new progress on what's going on. I bought the car from Reece and started to take it apart to get the new engine in

Re: 1999 Civic DX Hatch Build/Rebuild Thread
Another day in the books. Finding little things that I need to order to get this thing moving. Apparently the d16 has 6 Flywheel bolts and the b16 has 8 flywheel bolts. If I can find them tomorrow the engine will be set into place! Today we just looked at what we had and changed out bushings. Tomorrow should be a productive day

Re: 1999 Civic DX Hatch Build/Rebuild Thread
well things are slow going right now. Every time i start i have to stop to order more things.
rear sway bar is in now.
front sway bar is in
all brackets switched over on transmission, went to put in the flywheel and realized the B16 flywheel has 2 more bolts and are longer.... wish i would have known that sooner.
now with the flywheel one and putting on the clutch found out this clutch has 3 extra bolts as well. so i will go order some more bolts and hopefully get this engine in soon!.....

Well, the civic has been worked on but haven't updated this in a long time.
got all the suspension is in, front sway bar took a bit since i installed lower control arms upside down. once i realized they needed to be on the opposite sides it went very smooth.
light weight flywheel is in and ACT clutch is on
all bolted together and putting engine in. swapped out the one engine mount on the back to the transmission. went in pretty smooth
engine is in and bolted up, working on fluids and all hoses and wiring done up. the engine harness that came with the car only has one o2 sensor but the ecu wants two so it will always have an engine light. had to replace a couple seals for coolant and fuel once we started testing things.
intake is on and upper brace is on. had to custom make the throttle cable bracket to make sure i got 100% throttle. double check all bolts and set timing
well car is running. not great tho. seems to be a vacuum leak around throttle body. it's a skunk2 70mm throttle body
Reading into more on the 70mm throttle body i have heard some bad things about it.

spraying carb cleaner by the intake it wants to stall out by the gasket and by the throttle wheel. I will be buying a smaller throttle body as it is a NA build and doesn't really need a 70mm anyways.
I have been driving it for awhile and it seems to be fine other than that. going to do another oil change on it soon as i have almost put 500km on the new engine.
