Re: [FAQ] How-To: Charge your A/C air conditioner conditioning system at home
I have a 92 honda civic i have the can of r12 but the hose I have does not fit on the low side I tried the retro fit kit from 134 to r12 but that fitting is too small. What size adapter do i need to fit on low side or where can I get a hose that fits thanks

Re: [FAQ] How-To: Charge your A/C air conditioner conditioning system at home
FIRST - do you have a converted r12 system?
r12 to r134a?
What does the low side valve look like?
outside threads like a larger tire valve is r12
You can't just go putting a can in it without first analyzing the system.
condenser, pressure on both sides, leaks etc.
An r12 hose is pretty simple, you'll probably only find one on EBAY for like $5 , it has a tap with it , some come with a gauge too

it the original system on the car. It is r12 system is fine just needs some more refridgerant but none of the hoses or adapters fit the r12 7/16 is too small and 1/4 is to big I am wondering if it is metric being its a foriegn car

Hi all,
I have a 99 civic DX and the AC keeps turning on and off when idle.
I brought it to "Ice Cold Air" and they said the high presser side was really high (over 300psi) at idle and i probably have a clog somewhere. They suggested replacing the condenser and the reciever/dryer for $400.
Last summer (July 2010) i changed the condenser, accumulator and condensor fan myself so i really doubt there is a clog in it since it's pretty much brand new. When i filled up the system, i think i only pulled like -15psi vacum.
The year before that (Aug 2009) i had a mechanic replace the Compressor cause it sounded like it was falling apart.
What do you guys think it could be?

Can anyone tell me where the location of the expansion valve is? I understand it is under the dash but sure can't locate it.

Sorry, more info would help.
I have a 93 del sol and would like to know where the expansion valve is and how best to get to it?

Re: [FAQ] How-To: Charge your A/C air conditioner conditioning system at home
Hi everyone. Great old thread here! I knew nothing about ac systems and charging before reading it. I hope it's ok to bump it.
Anyways my compressor on my 92 civic is making whining sound. The whining corresponds to the engine rpm. I assume it's just the clutch that's bad.
I purchased a used compressor from a online wrecking yard from a 93 Del Sol and had it shipped to me. Unfortunately they sent me a r134a compressor (even though I specifically asked if it was r12), so I can't use it in my r12 system.
My question is this: Can I swap the clutch over? Both are Sanden compressors TRF090 and TRS090. I think it should work fine but wanted to ask first. If anyone knows, it would be a great help!
_________________________
Edit: In case anyone has the same question, the answer is NO. Both compressors use different sized clutches.

Re: [FAQ] How-To: Charge your A/C air conditioner conditioning system at home
I have another question here, this time regarding the receiver/drier for a 92 civic. If I should make a new thread, let me know. It seemed the OP wanted this to be a thread for everything AC related so I hope it's OK.
I went to order the drier from Majestic Honda (hondaautomotiveparts.com), but when I put my car info into the website (92 EX(abs) Sedan KA5MT) the only receiver I can order is the R134a version (part 80351-SR1-H11).
I searched around the online and found that the part number I would need for my R12 system is part # 80351-SR1-A11. I searched for the specific part number on Majestic's Website, found it and ordered it.
Unfortunately when I received this they sent me the r134a (80351-SR1-H11) instead. They didn't even ask if I minded that they sent me a different part number than I had ordered, so I'm not very happy. I think the r12 driers must be discontinued.
I know a lot of aftermarket driers say they are fine for both r134a and r12. Does anyone know if these OEM driers are compatible with both? Will I need to get an aftermarket one?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

discontinued? yes. everything R12 is supposed to be converted to R134a by law, as of a long time ago.
if your car is still fitted with R12 fittings, it will need to be converted to R134a, the whole system. so thats why you got the R134a piece.

If I have to aftermarket I will. I would prefer to stay OEM if this would work for both r12 and r134a. I see a lot of aftermarket driers advertised as working for both.

Edit: I just got off the phone with Majestic Honda. They said the receiver would work with both r12 and r134a. If I have any trouble using it, I'll write back here. I hope this helps people down the road with the same question.

I ordered a specific part by the exact part number and received a different one without being asked if I minded. Seems pretty reasonable to me that I would be upset by that regardless of the reason. I would have much appreciated a phone call asking me about it. If it's a discontinued part, fine... they still should have called me and confirmed that it was ok to send a different part. As I stated in my edit from yesterday, Honda confirmed that the drier would work for both so my question has been answered.
You stated "everything R12 is supposed to be converted to R134a by law" which is incorrect. There is no law saying you are supposed to convert. How am I taking you too seriously? Were you joking?
I'm not sure what the point of the two links you posted was since they didn't contradict anything I said and didn't teach me anything I didn't already know. What exactly were you trying to clarify to me? This was taken from one of the links you posted: "This law does not, however, make it illegal to own or use R12 refrigerant. But it does make it very difficult for the average person to obtain it." Your own link contradicts you.

why would i bullshit u? i have no reason to do that. ok i exaggerated on everything has to be converted by law, but how did i know u were going to get all serious book nerd on me? wtf.. why dont you just research your questions next time or maybe try calling honda first and ask them why you didnt get what it was you wanted instead of asking us.? we didnt ship your parts out dude.
and i dont understand how if you already knew all of that stuff in the links, why didnt u understand why you got the part that u did??? u contradict yourself.
if you have anymore to say, then pm me. back on topic please.

And why "get all serious book nerd"? It's because this is the best AC thread I have found. It still gets a fair amount of traffic and I think people should be getting the CORRECT info. When you exaggerate and tell people they have to legally switch over their systems, that's bad info and people will take it to be true. Another reason I asked here was because I wanted the answer to be in text for other people to read/research that may have the same question down the road.
I did a ton of research on this topic before posting here. My research brought me to this very thread. I asked the question if the drier would work here because I didn't find my answer anywhere else. I did call Majestic Honda first. They had to get back to me, so I asked here to see if I could get a faster response.
Your links said nothing about if the drier would work for both. It was NEVER that I didn't understand why I received a different part. It was me expressing my frustration that I wasn't asked if it was OK to send me a DIFFERENT PART. I even stated in my original post "I think the r12 driers must be discontinued." How would I know if they were. Majestic's website let me order the discontinued part. How did your links help me with this again??? Where did I contradict myself??? That's right, I didn't...
I'm done arguing with you. It seems that you didn't really read what I originally posted. And PM with you, no thanks.

Re: [FAQ] How-To: Charge your A/C air conditioner conditioning system at home
It's been 6 years since I originally wrote this exclusive, honda-tech, How To Charge Your A/C write it... and boy it's getting HOT outside here in AZ again.
Fortunately, I drive a stock GTO with working A/C so I don't have these worries anymore, but I am glad to see this thread has been valuable over the years!

Is there a way to increase the cooling speed / capacity of my Honda CRV 2003?
I live in Texas and would like to have my car cool faster (without risking overheating).
I have installed remote start, and yes that helps, but when it is over 100 degrees out, I have trouble staying cool, especially in traffic.
The past few days have been in the 100 to 105 degrees range, and I would like to be cool for more than half of the trip.
My condenser fan has stopped working, it has almost 100K miles, and it is fine otherwise, so I am willing to spend money to upgrade, even if it is a couple of grand.
Thanks in advance
