I have a leak somewhere and at times i can smell the freon in the car when the a/c is on. When I charge the a/c it will stay cold for about a month then get to ambeint temp. Since I can smell the freon in the car could my evaporator be bad??

not so fast dude lol....

i think i may just have a bad compressor... i just have the little blue hose with the a/c gauge in the middle that transfers r134 to the LOW side of the unit... "u kno what im talkin about lol".... but yeah my reading will be a tad below average and after i fill it with a can of freon my compressor starts squeaking like crazy mad loud, but my belt is tight an everything seems to be tightened.. the clutch part thats supposed to spin just like clicks then it will make like 2 or 3 rotations an just click an stop again... is that supposed to be moving the whole time..?? sound like compressor maybe to u..?? i can get one that works for 40 bucks with clutch and everything but i dont wanna buy a different one if i could maybe try some other things to know for sure its my compressor... thanks man...

id also like to add that my cars rpms drop to like 500 when i do turn the a/c on an if i just let it idle sometimes that **** bogs out almost an like sputters really fast back to like 700rpms.... that might help u understand...

MY A/C blows decent cool but definitely not ice cold like I would like. Have you had the chance to mess with a turbo'd card that has AC? I have the upper line that is near the radiator rapped with heat reflecting tape and my manifold and downpipe are ceramic coated to put out as little heat as possible.

Also how do you release the r-134 out of your lines? I know its illegal to let out into the atmosphere, so I will have an attachment like hose on it. Just wondering how you would do it regularly? Would just opening up the line at the compressor work?

are you supposed to hold the can of refrigerant upside down while charging? if not at what angle. or does it really matter as long as the compressor isnt running?

Since it's about that time to start using the a/c I decided it'd be nice to turn it on and enjoy the benefits of it. Well, mine does not blow cold at all, it typically blows ambient air temp. The fan turns on and I *think* the compressor is turning on. What would be the best coarse of action?

I'm thinking this: (car is 1998 civic ex with d16y8)

-check fuses/relays
-refill a/c with r134a
-profit?

Any help would help .

okay, for all the A/C guru's....I brought my car in because the a/c wasn't blowing cold (after recharge)...they said my expansion valve and compressor were going out. Now, the reason they said the compressor was going bad was because it was turning off at idle. I took it home and observed...the compressor will engage for 5 minutes and then turn off for a couple seconds then turn right back on, almost like it is SUPPOSED to do that. Now, do honda's do this? I read up that some cars A/C compressors shut off to regulate refrigerant...is my 1995 civic dx one of those cars?

Need some help from the AC experts, I followed the instructions on this post and ac was working again. Now it works fine but when the temp is above 85F it seems to turn off the compressor on a regular basis and not come back on until I wait 5 minutes or so. I assume this is when the compressor has cooled and it starts working again.

The car is a 94 GSR but it has a civic rad and fan so I am thinking it may be due to inadequate cooling from a civic rad and fan since the integra one is dual. Could it also be that the freon is low, I used 2.5 cans but not sure I got enough as the psi on the low side was only about 32. It says the integra takes 24 ounces and based on the way you charge the freon, you usually only get a bit more than half the can in as the pressure stabilizes between the can and system. Should I put more freon in?

Alright my a/c blows cool but not cold. And judging from what I've seen the compressor does NOT cycle. Too little R-134a?

hello all, i have a 1992 civic with a swapped b16. it all runs good so i wanted a/c. since i had the psr bracket i put a gsr compressor in the car and vaccumed it down and charged it with 2 and a half cans of 12oz r134a. when i turn on the system on 4, it dosnt blow cold and the compressor will trip in for a few seconds and then out for about 7 or so seconds the back in again. when i put the a/c on 1 the compressor will trip out and the air will get colder but not as cold as i would expect. i asked some people what to do and they just said put the single cam compressor in but no one ever tells me why. i just figure that a compressor is a compressor whats the problem. anyway. any help will be much appreciated due to the fact that its 100 degrees and raining in florida right now. lol

and another question, how do you know when the expansion valve is clogged or broken and the same for the drier?

Well, I followed this guide, but seem to be having problems with my '93 Del Sol.

I pulled almost -30 on the vacuum.

I put 134a in, one can, started feeling cool, temp got down to 60 out of right side vent, but was almost 70 in center vent, and over 70 in the far left vent. (is that a sign of something else wrong, or is it normal being the first thru last vents in the chain?)

Pressure was around 30/120.

Then I put in the second can, pressure went up slowly to around 45/145.

BUT THE AIR GOT HOTTER! 70 on the right, and 80/85 center and right respectively.

I drove it around a bit, hoping that might help, it didnt. The low side had jumped to around 55! So I let some pressure out back down to 30 (where the temp seemed livable) on the low side, but the high side is only 120-125?

Is that high enough to run properly? Your quote is 150-200, so am I just not adding enough??

The air is still blowing around 80 or so, and its about that outside right now!?!?!?

Thanks for any help!

Ok, now I decided to put the rest of the other can in, then a bit of a 3rd can.

Now its 40-45/ 160-170 and the right side vent is blowing around 58-61 so I'm happy with that.

Now, why does the temp raise almost 15-20 degrees from the left vent to the right?

I've got the heater valve closed, I checked under dash, and under hood.

Weird.

Well, Everything was working fine, when I hear a thump near the firewall, then a LOUD THUMP same place and the air died.

I got home and put gauges on it. It had some pressure, but started dropping down to 0. The clutch was spinning, and when I added the rest of the freon I had, it gained some pressure, but soon lost it.

EXPANSION VALVE?? Its the ONE damn part I didnt replace!

Ugg. Sounds like it's time to charge-up a can & check for leaks w/ soapy water.

IMO, the TXV was at first the most intimidating component to replace but yet one of the simplest looking back. Remove glove box; remove battery; disconnect the 2 A/C lines behind battery, and the few self-tapped screws behind the glove box and the whole evap assy. drops into your hands. Open 'er up and clean out all the leaves & crap (as was the case for me yesterday when I did it). Next to it is the fan assembly....might be worthwhile to check there too if you're getting discriminating blowage out the vents. HTH

Finally Done! Installed AC on my non-AC EK and followed the instructions here on how to flush, vacuum and refill and finished it last night after scrounging for parts the past month or two! Everything went smooth as I got nice ice cold AC now in this hot Carolina summer weather...Thanks to Drumminfoev for the post on this...

Ok guys here we go....
95 EX Coupe.

Previous compressor went dead from overcharging...Got a reman compressor.

Installed the compressor (new orings, oil) got the system vacummed and recharged.

Turned out my climate control button was busted so I got a new climate control and nothing. Still blows hot air...

The only thing I didnt change was the dryer is this the culprit? The guy who charged my system said all the readings on the guages were normal. This is pissing me off already I just want my a/c!

now when u got a new compressor, what kind of oil did u add? ester or pag? and did u retrofit the system from a r12 to r134a?

because my gf has a 93 ex coupe and her system is r12, but i cant remember what yr they changed from r12 to r134a........since yours is a 95 i ASSUME it is r12 and u converted it to r134a???? yes? no?
