anything is possible as long as you have the time and the money. Also your parts list is available to you in the search option.

do a manual conversion. Your car will be much more fun. Then turbo it

i heard that automatic turbos can sometimes be better than manuel ones. Since there will be consistant boost willing driving since a automatic will shift faster than and 5 speed.

the stock civic auto tranny can't shift faster than the stock manual transmission.

and the auto tranny cant handle boost well. Gotta beef that up too. I think a guy on HT named AztecEJ boosted a 1.5 or a 1.6... i dont remember but I'm sure he will help you out with any questions. His was a automatic btw.

But they have to be able to handle the boost to shift any more. Honestly I agree, some of the fastest drag cars in the country are auto powerd (much easier to bang though the gears by a machine that never changes what it does than for a human who has 10000s of variables to tend to). A stock Civic tranny on the other hand is neither impressive, nor able to handle the high power of a turbo setup effectively.

I drove an AT Turbo Civic, SOHC VTEC, the tranny is weak, but can be overcomed by getting a torque converter. I got a set up from Level 10 along with a rebuild kit. Never had any problems, ran a 12.3 @110mph At calsbad raceway about a year ago. I was boosting 8lbs-10lbs for race, 6lbs for just street. It was fun while it lasted, the car was stolen and stripped shortly after running that 12 sec pass. But its possible to turbo AT civics but they come at a cost. Its not cheap getting the tranny work done, plus not enough knowledge of the civic AT tranny. Good luck if u do go for it.

i remember bauley posted a while back that someone on http://www.superhonda.com did a greddy kit with an auto. something like 130hp and an amazing 16 second time slip.

don't bother. learn how to drive a 5spd, and do the conversion. auto trannys are something you should never be involved with anyway.

the only exception is 1000hp supras etc, which turn the manual gearbox into slush because of all the torque. auto trannys are generally stronger, and there is less loss of boost pressure between shifts. this is not the case at all with a honda auto.

There isn't any noticeable difference in terms of the installation process when installing the turbo on an automatic or manual car. However, there is a pretty big difference in how they both drive. I had the apexi kit on an auto D16y8 and it felt relatively fast to a certain extent: however, in a few short months the transmission was already showing signs of failure. Even though I don't have the tendency to drive the car hard on a regular basis, the few times that I did push it managed to damage the transmission to the extent of slower shifts than stock. For example, when the tach approached mid 6k rpm, the transmission tries to shift but manages to stay in gear a little longer than usual. Therefore, the transmission would basically go to around 7.5k on the tach before it actually shifted.

Switching to a manual transmission and an aftermarket clutch is definitely well worth it. Although it definitely is not necessarily a fast car, the difference between having the turbo on the automatic and the manual are very apparent. When driving the turbo auto, it somehow feels like you aren't attached to the car, since the response is a little slower than a simple downshift. Moreover, it isn't too expensive nor is it too difficult to do the auto to manual process, at least in terms of the 96-00 civic that I worked on.

I'm going to put the Edelbrock kit when it comes out on my auto EG hatch D16Z6 and keep it auto. Mild boost. Then AEM EMS. I've gone through the arguments many times before and I wont do it again. Auto is great, I love it. Honda did some excellent gearing with their autos. Lower VTEC engagement than manual. Lots of torque multiplication for spooling a turbo up, especially with the TCI torque converter. And yes I am aware of the complications of putting an AEM EMS on a Honda auto.

Theres lots of misconceptions and bad information about autos out there. People who say autos are weak are usually the people who neutral shift drop their auto into oblivion. Or sit there at red lights for 3 mins holding the brake and the throttle down for a launch. Most people for instance don't know that the stock Honda torque conveter has carbon fiber internals. And since you have full control on an EG for everything except to force and upshift, or force it to hit the rev limiter in 2nd gear or above, why not? You build a manual trans for power well you build an auto too. What's so fun about a clutch? Especially on a FF!!! I hate the feeling of putting the clutch in. I have reasons for wanting auto and like I said, I wont go into it.

PS and mechanical water pumps put a big drain on the engine but you don't hear people saying "ditch that PS or else any mod is a waste". It's all image. If you like auto then keep it auto and don't listen to anybody's condesending remarks.

Oh well I wont be returning to this thread, I know where it's headed. Let the PWNAG3 retardation begin.

I'm not sure if my transmission was faulty or not, but I have never beaten on my transmission to warrant the shape it was in when I pulled it out. I never torque braked, manually shifted, or neutral shift dropped my transmission and it still wound up wearing out to the point of needing replacement. It might have just been my car but I only ran the car for approximately 10000-12000 miles on daily driven 8 psi, and the car itself only had 35,000 miles on it when I replaced the transmission. I'm not quite sure how it can be called misinformation if I'm talking from personal experience.
