Default ***Did I Blow my Head Gasket?? Please help!***

Sup fellas--I have a 2000 Civic Si w/a Greddy Turbo kit, and this morning when I started my car, it idled fine for about 45 sec, then my idle dropped super low where it was on the brink of stalling, and when I stepped on the gas to bring the RPMs up, it would sputter and sound like a diesel, and had difficulty revving past 4k.

When I was revving the car, it was puffing lots of white/bluish smoke, and it continues to idle at only 100-200 rpm until it stalls. I also noticed that my coolant (which was full about 2 weeks ago,) has gone down about an inch to an inch to an inch and a half.

I want to get a leakdown/comp test, but I'm afraid to drive my car--will it be ok to drive, or should I tow it to some place?? Does this sound like the head gasket? And if so, do I need to replace anything else, or should that be it? Thanks for the help!

it sounds like a headgasket to me. have a compresion test first. you don't have to take it to a shop to have it done.

if you're afraid to drive the car, borrow or have someone take you t a part store. pick up the tester and do it yourself.

good luck.

Have the headgasket replaced, since that is most likely the problem, given the symptoms. Sorry to hear that dude

Thanks man, yeah, I'm super bummed right now, especially b/c I just got layed off from the mortgage company I was working.

What is a fair price of labor I should pay to have it replaced? (Some dude quoted me $270) Do I need to replace anything else when I change out the head gasket?

well, if it hasn't been done yet, i would recommend you replacing the

water pump
timing belt
timing belt tensioner
cam seals.

but with your unfortunate situation, i would just do the headgasket. the others can be done at a later time and most likely you can perform them.

Yeah, I would like to change the timing belt, water pump, etc, but b/c of the whole lay-off crap, I have to wait to do that until I come up on some more cash. Thanks for the info, bro. I appreciate it.

That's okay. The only real labor-intensive part would be the headgasket. Most of the rest of those only require some time under the car, so don't worry about them at a time when money is tight.
