Default $1500, 99 DX (Automatic) What would you do?

I asked Tom (B18C5-EH2), our moderator his opinion, now I'm interested in yours. I've got this 99 DX, check the signature. I have a $1500 budget. I figure $750 on Visa, $750 on mastercard. $2000 Budget MAXIMUM !! What should I do with my DX? I was thinking I could drop in a ZC, jdmfaze.com has the engine, tranny, Ecu, etc. for sale at $499. I know ZC isn't spectacular but is an upgrade from a d16y7. What would any of you guys do? Be honest! Be brutal! All comments welcomed and appreciated!

The zc swap wont bolt in. Their tranny is differ, their wiring is differ, ecu is differ.... It's not worth it. Try to get a 92+ soch vtec swap. They dont cost much.

I just did a Mini-me on my brothers 92 DX. I would do a Mini-Me and then maybe nitrous...since boost is out of reach with that budget...
ORRR
Find a D16y8 someone wants to sell, and Rebuild it like 11:1 compression and pop in a Exospeed cam...would be pretty badass...
Thats my idea man...cheap and effective!

if your staying sohc, why would you get the ZC? If I were you i would either go z6 or y8, but thats just me.

edit: not sure how much an auto 2 manual conversion is, but that would be my next move

So basically I need a y8 head - compressed to 11:1, and a 5spd conversion?

STOP!!!! stop diss'n the y7!! it only got 25 less horse than the y8... and its pretty much the same engine... cept for the head... Build your engine up... i just bought a y8 manifold, and im doing head work to her.. and getting higher compress pistons... y7 is the way to go.. and trust me... dont go into credit debt... as said before... it will ruin your life..... my rents got divorced cause of that bullshit... save and build

well, dude... ones non-vtec, and one is vtec... obviously there is a difference... y8= more high end power, shorter gears... y7= less power... longer gears.. lower compression, ideal for turbo setup.. if i was you, i would save your *** some money and turbo the y7...

Edit: def get a 5spd conversion... get the ex tranny if you want... would be a good upgrade if your goin N/A too...

Dont Use credit cards. I owed about a grand, and still owe about 500 which I am paying off as soon as my refund gets here. DO not pull that crap...youll regret it.

The Y8 head will give you about 25 more horse, I dont know how much someones gonna charge you to install it, you will also need the ECU that goes with it. In order to get 11.1 compression, you need to swap out the pistons...so youre pretty much talking a bottom end rebuild. I thought you were doin all your own work, but to have someone do all this costs more. Swap the y8 head on if your bottom end seals good, and then buy a zex kit, run like a 50 shot. That seems like the best bang for your buck. If I had my way, block and head swap, along with boost...but you dont have the money for that.
The 5 spd conversion is a given...you should be able to find a EX tranny pretty easily. I have 2 of them, both with some bad 3rd gear snycros...I would sell one if you really need one bad, u could get it fixed....but you should be able to find one cheap enough in good condition.

Thanks man. I wasn't really listening to all the credit card advice. I'd do better having the bills then trying to save. If I need financial advice I'll look elsewhere.

How about a greddy turbo kit? You can sell your header intake and 17in rims for some more money.

Yes, the protection of a card is good. BUT dont fool yourself. I used to think the same way. I'll rack up what I want, pay 100 bucks a month and boom im good. You realllllly should just save up the money man, I've been here, and I know its hard to listen to others advice, sometimes u gotta **** up on your own to learn, but if you wait say 6 months, The interest you save on like a 1000 dollar balance would buy you a clutch, or a set of coilovers, or a cam. It doesnt seem like much til you add it up. DONT SAVE until youve paid off credit cards, otherwise youre not saving.

Can anyone give me an estimate on how much a auto to 5spd conversion will cost if I buy a used ex tranny, and have a professional shop do the job? "professional shop means reasonably priced labor.

Sell the 99DX auto and look for a 96ish 5-speed something.

I'm sorry, but modding an auto tranny car is retarded. Doing a 5 speed swap on a car so new is equally retarded, especially when you are putting it on a credit card.
