Geico canceled my policy..
Well as you guys might know, I hit a deer about a month ago. The thing is, my mom forgot to pay the insurance bill so Geico canceled my policy (she had no idea). When we tried to file a claim, they said they would not cover it due to the policy being inactive. The estimate for the damages is $3,900. What should I do? I don't have $3,900 lying around...
Thanks,
Nate

$3900 in damages from hitting a deer?? Wow. How fast were you going? Got any pics of the damage.
As far as the insurance goes I can't really help you there. Honestly I don't know how insurance companies work!

Honestly, I think you're hosed.
In reality, if you were the insurance company, would you insure a guy filing a claim like this?
This is what I think about when you said that.... I have house insurance. Suddenly, I stop paying the insurance. The next month, my home burns down and I reinsure and file a claim. Not gonna happen. I know it's not like you meant for it to look like this, but it is almost as if you were just gonna drive around insuranceless, and now that you were in an accident, you suddenly want insurance. Again, I know this isn't how you meant it, but if I were them, that's how I would take it.
Now, almost $4k for hitting a deer? I would like to hear that story
Anyways, I would look around for parts on here for people that are possibly switching out parts on their ride and see if you can find some cheap stuff. If not, hopefully your car runs and it's just some cosmetic crap.
Good luck
Oh and one more thing.. you should change your title. It makes Geico look bad =/ Technically, your mom canceled the policy when she didn't pay the bill

Sounds like the problem is you not paying your own insurance!! After getting a nice new car, you take a chance like that? Hope you can get it fixed.

This is why insurance & car payment are the most important things.
Inactive insurance could be crippling
sadly you dont really have a leg to stand on since she actuallY DID not send it in
just be thankful it was a deer only and you didnt hit a person or another car
you'd REALLY be fucked.

I'm sure your & his mom have done a million things for each of you... forgetting a bill happens
regardless it was an accident... AND a learning experience that you (pinoy) will never make again.

my mom has a ton of bills to pay for and sometimes she doesn't keep track. she's very busy in the office with meetings here and there.

We're all busy, but bills are bills, and from the sound of it it's her fault your car isn't getting fixed. If I were her, I'd offer to pay for it. That'd be the right thing...

Re: (L-Dawg)
It looks like a fender, bumper, one headlight, a hood and some paint.
Fender- $250
Bumper-$350
Hood-$500
Headlight-$200
Paint-$500
I see about $1800-2300 worth if you play your cards right.
You buy the parts, install them since none of which are hard to do, and then bring it somewhere to be painted. Hell you could get a CF hood and save on paint right there.

my only recommendation is to shop around at a few different body shops, i'm sure you'll be able to find someone to do it cheaper... you'll ulimatley end up paying out of pocket for the repairs so the "cheaper" the better

Re: (TRE_)
If I can give you one piece of advice, DON'T start applying for CCs and loans. That's how you get into debt.. and wind up committing suicide when the CC holders start pestering you for the payments. It sounds unlikely, but it happens all the time.
Work something out with your mom. Pay HER in installments.. I don't think she will be knocking on your bedroom to collect the payments.. hopefully
But that definitely sucks =/ Good luck with it, that looks pretty nasty.

Did this happen when your insurance was active or inactive?
If your insurance was active when this accident happened, then you have a claim.
Pay the bill and the late fee to have it reactivated. Geico cannot cancel your auto insurance if you're late on a payment but rather you will have to pay the last bill plus a late fee. Your insurance will be cancelled if you recieved a notification stating the fact that your insurance will be cancelled and youfail to pay on the due date.
If you had ur insurance suspended when this accident happened, then tough luck.

damage is worse than what it looks like. body work still has to be done to the car, not just a matter of replacing parts.

This is what happens when you don't pay for your own car/insurance.
I know it sucks but you wouldn't be in this situation if you paid for your own stuff. Anyone saying it's his mom's fault is retarded. He should be happy he even has a car and that she did pay the insurance before.

I agree ^^ BUT. I do think there is a problem giving your kid an SI AND paying for the insurance. That's the problem. But I wouldn't blame this on the mother AND expect her to pay for the wreck.
