Mods...I know this isn't "tech", but it is informative and contains more useful facts than most of the crap on this site.

Attention 8th Geners:
For some time now, erroneous information has been spread around H-T (and other Honda/Civic related sites) stating that every Civic headed for the States was made in Alliston, Ontario. I too thought this was true, simply because I believed what I read on the internet and because the build sheet for my Si says it was assembled in Ontario.

But, no it seems only the R18 Civic coupes, and Si models are assembled in Ontario (along with sedans destined for Canada). The regular Civic sedan that we see in the states is actually assembled in the East Liberty, Ohio plant, and the Hybrid is assembled in Japan!

Sure, many of you will say you already know this (as some of you may), but I've never seen anyone disagree with someone who said "all Civics are assembled in Canada".

My reason for making this thread came about after I was reading the newspaper the other day and on the front page of a section was a picture of a Civic sedan on the factory line. The photo's caption read something like "So-n-so assembles a Civic Sedan in Honda's East Liberty, Ohio plant". I was like..."DUUR huh wha?"

thats why you read the specs sticker from the dealership. it says that on what percentage of parts came from what place..

That has nothing to do with what I posted. I knew the parts came from everywhere. I was only talking about assembly plants, which it also tells on the "specs sticker" (aka build sheet).

The count so far:

2: Who admit they thought that all Civics bound for the US are built in Canada.

1: Who thinks he knows it all.

you guys didn't know the hybrid was the only civic we get made in japan?

that's why it has the blinkers in the side view mirrors and the automatic HVAC controls we can't get in any other civic.

I admit I had no idea that the lx/dx/ex sedan was made in ohio though

A while back I had heard that both Toyota and Honda had planned to jump into Nascar and in order to do this you need to have an assembly plant somewhere in the continental US. I think Toyota's in in the south somewhere.

Interestingly enough Honda has just dropped out of the F1 circuit due to market conditions. I wonder what America's economic conditions will mean for Honda and future Si models?

Well, you can well assume that if they discontinue the Si or take a short hiatus (couple of years), the cars will go up in value a bit... no?

I always figured that because the hybrid was a bit of a leap in technology, Honda just threw them on as a safety precaution. Do the hybrid mirrors have the power-folding ability? I was really considering getting a pair of them.

Had Honda kept the Si as a "rare" model like the 99-00 model (only in coupe trim, 3 color choices) then maybe it could have happened, but I doubt it with this generation Si. There are too many.

I go by the first letter/number of the vin. J=japan, 1=USA 2=Canada etc..I order some parts for a regular sedan and it started with a J..so it not only hybrids. Really hate it when the parts department jack up the prices for Japan-made model parts.

Again, this thread isn't about where the individual parts are made, but about where the car's final assembly takes place.

what i know of that fit is from japan 2 and i heard that some hondas were assemble at ohio but i my be wrong that's what i heard from one of the writers that went to ohio, they had the best score in the whole state so the company send them 2 ohio to have some kind of meeting with other different s writers from different s states and he was saying that he saw how that car were putting together
like i said i may wrong but that's what the writer was saying 2 every one at the dealer

I wasn't talking about parts that are made in japan, I'm talking about cars that are assembled in japan.. there are some regular sedans that are assembled in japan, not only the hybrids.

And they jack-up prices for those parts if your car was assembled in japan.

Not that I'm doubting you, cause frankly I have no idea, but what you are saying does not make much sense.

A Civic Sedan is a Civic Sedan. The parts are the same. If you need a new part, buy one that was "for" Civic Sedans assembled in Ohio or Canada.

Also, the logistics of assembling cars in Japan vs in the USA does not make much sense either. To ship an entire vehicle costs a lot more, and there are a lot more risks.

I believe that Mugen SIs are assembled in Japan, so naturally those parts will cost more, but for regular Civic Sedans, it would just be unnecessary to assemble overseas.

Thanks. I'd prefer to get hybrid mirrors than add side markers to my fenders. The power folding ability is an added perk.

And I wasn't talking about Civic Sedans that go anywhere but the US. You're getting off topic from what this thread is about. Besides the Hybrid, no 8th Gen Civic produced for the US market is assembled in Japan. That's it.

Mugen Si's are assembled in Canada along with the rest of the SIs. The Mugen accesories are added at the dealerships I believe.

This is true. I have seen Mugen Si's delivered to dealerships without aero bits on the car. Later on in the week I saw the fully assemble unit on the showroom floor with a 41k price tag.

There is a Honda plant in Indiana that opened recently, they make Civic 4dr, no Si from what I have heard though.
