When Changing My Oil Went Bad.... [injury pic inside]
Okay...
So I've been meaning to change my oil for quite some time now. Earlier on in the day I went out and bought some ramps, oil filter, oil filter wrench and a really bright lamp/flashlight. I already had 4qts of Mobile 1 in the garage. [I always change my oil but I do it at work so since I was planning on changing my oil at home I went out and bought all those things.] So I wasn't doing anything at around 9:30pm so I decided to change it.
I go out back and set the car up on the ramps, get my lamp out along with the all the supplies and all that crap. I lay on the creeper and slide under the car. I locate the oil pan bolt, I put the socket wrench on it and turn the bolt left... and nothing. I try again and I couldnt get this thing to budge. Then I thought to myself I'm getting this off now so I pushed as hard as I could and BAM i got it turned! Instead of the feeling of relief or accomplishment I had a sudden rush of pain and my hand was all wet with oil. Wait, that's not oil, thats... BLOOD! I dont exactly remember how I had my hands but I guess I had my left hand on the right side of the wrench so when I got the wrench to turn I unknowingly smashed my thumb between the wrench and the bottom of the engine. I quickly sat up and wrapped my hand with a towel and came to my room, took some advil, took pics and then went back out there to do a one hand oil change

As you can see, I smashed the sides of my thumb so badly that I cracked the nail and blood was coming through the crack. Never have I wanted to cry so much... but I held my own

that sucks, next time get better tools such as a longer ratchet, which in term give you more leverage so you don't have to push as hard.

Yeah, I'm always getting hurt at work. Working with diesel tractors and trailers... it's easy to get a good cut. I'm just pissed because I'm bleeding through my nail lol. Never cracked a nail in half sideways

After countless knuckle shaves I learned to use the tap method. Put the socket on the bolt and hold it with your left, then with the palm on your right hand tap the ratchet until breaks loose. This technique avoids shaved knuckles and stripped screws.

Thats nothing. I've had gas in my eye, smashed a wrench into my forehead, and numerous other slices and dices from working on my last car.
I remember once when I was younger I was being stupid and playing with my moms sewing machine, and ended up having it run a thread right thru my index finger nail, almost came thru the other side too. Woo hoo...

Not to try to sound like some elitist douchebag but I use mobile 1 synthetic and always do my own oil changes... for peace of mind. I'd rather screw my own car up rather than have to prove that someone else did.
