I have a 2008 Civic Si.

I believe they are Michelin 215/45/17 V rated tires. They want $297 to replace the blow out. So on tire rack I see some Michelans for like $177 each. Also, I see some Yokohama's for around 100 bucks.

Can I just go with the yok's? Or at the very least get one of the michelins shipped on out...

get something with a very similar tread pattern, and then put that tire on the rear.

It's best to replace tires in pairs. Show Firestone your findings and see if they will match the tire price. Be sure to let them know that they aren't the only game in town. Additionally you should get them to break down the tire price.

I don't think I wanna replace both tires. I only have 3500 miles on the car. Plus, it's a lease.

Do what you want my friend, it was a safety suggestion. What does leasing have to do with anything? Tires are a wear and tear item, though it's way early in your lease if you return a lease vehicle with worn tires they WILL charge you.

Why are you leasing the vehicle?

OP, a month or so ago i ordered four 215/45R-17 KUMHO ECSTA AST from Tire Rack for 337.18 shipped. they were 74 bucks a piece.

replacing in pairs IMO is ideal, as mentioned, esp if you are not using the same tire. just get two of those and call it a day, they are very nice. keep the extra OE tire incase you have an issue with one of the remaining OE tires.

I didn't know Firestone selling Michellin tire, I though they only sell Bridgestone/Firestone brand. Anyway, you can install a different brand on the car just to be safe move it to the rear.

I have purchased many tires from tire rack, but only when it's beneficial. It's not always the economical route, but when they have clearances they are hard to beat.

You will pay $10-$15 per tire to ship from tire rack and then $15-$20 to have a shop mount and balance it. And some places will not even mount a tire unless it was purchased from them anyway.

So you are looking at $25-$35 at least over what the actual cost of what tire rack will sell it to you for. Also you will have to load the tire in your car, take it there and waste gas. Or maybe your shop is a recommended installer for tire rack and will work with ya.

Tire rack is hard to beat on the actuall cost of the tire, but they have to be cause once you factor in all the other costs involved you are usually pretty close to where you would be otherwise and if not, then that is when it is a beneficial choice.


Due to increased airflow from the atmosphere consuming turbo which I posess, causes the injectors to deplete my fuel tank from which the resultant action is suffocating amounts of tire smoke which validates my need for frequent tire changes........SUCKAS!!!!!!!

You can find two tires that are cheaper and replace them in pairs for less then the 297. I kno that firestone sells a tire car a pz900. Buddy works there. They are decent tire for the price. Or do what Built did and buy 2 of those 74 tires.

Just buy 4 new tires for 50-70 online! I used Hankooks on my car that were $50 a pop, high performance all seasons and they did great.

Good points in this post! I get all my tires from a local shop that i know and trust. To much of a hassle to buy online.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I am waiting to hear back fromt he guy in philly. If his si tire has about the same mileage on that would be the ideal replacement tire.

If not I will probly order two of those khumos for 74 a piece. I asked firestone to keep my tire and I also asked for a quote on putting whatever tire I find to balance and throw it on the rim, they said it would be 30 bucks. SO whatever price I get a tire for is +30 to get it on the car. But yeah 297 a tire is ridiculous. I use to own an STI and I replaced all 4 tires for about 1,000. No way a civic SI should be more than that STI tires were.

You think so? One of my coworkers mentioned that, and I guess I never thought of it just because its more of a "wear n tear" category like brakes. But, I guess it is worth a shot with only 3K on the car...

just call and ask... i think you'll be suprised.
If you were doing massive burnouts.... then obviously no, but a blow-out under normal driving conditions should be covered. (prorated of course)

For $25 more you can get the khumo ast. They are the best bang for your buck IMO. I got myne from discount tire. They are always pretty cheap if. I dont know if they would have one where you live? Look them up.

MICHELIN: Best customer service I have ever come across. EVAR!

Here's what happened:

I called Honda, they told me to check with the manufacturer. Ok, so I call Michelin, and they say no problem bring it to Dunn tire right down the street and they are certified to tell Michelin if it was a tire defect (I'd get a free tire shipped) or road hazard (not covered). Dunn tire tells me it was road hazard issue with a hole in the side wall.

Ok, so Michelin tells me in good faith they can give me 35% off the tire since there is only 3,000 miles on the car. I go back to dunn tire and when they order Michelin will give the discount.

Douchebags at Dunn tire say they can't give a discount like that, even though I tell them that when they order the tire Michelin will basically give THEM the discount. Then they say, well that tire isn't even in our system anyways. Sorry, just go to Honda, they can order it for you.

Wtf, so I call Honda, they tell me they can't give a discount, and they just order the tire through Honda anyways. They don't even talk to Michelin. I try explain to order through Michelin, but I say F it, let me clarify the exact process with Michelin.

I just got off the phone with Michelin, and the first thing the guy does when he brings up my record is tell me he can do better than just a 35% off dicsount. He said he'll give me 75% off a new tire! This was before I could even speak and say I just wanted to know exactlly how I GET this discount. So I then tell him the issue, and says ok hold on, I am going to call that Dunn tire right down the street from you and get this tire to you quickly, and clarify the issue. 5 minutes later he gets back to me and sais I will be charged 25% of retail on the tire, and I can have it balanced at Dunn tire next Tuesday when it arrives.


CLIFFS:
- Michelin WANTS to give me 35% off a tire
- Dunn tire says they can't help
- Honda says they can't help
- Michelin says let me call them for you. AND we will give you 75% off of retail
- Tire is ordered and will cost me 25% of $225.00. or about 60 bucks for a brand new
