Default Test Drive: My impressions of the '06 Si.

Well, I oficially have driven a new Habanero Red Pearl Si with 6, count em 6 miles on it today, and heres my impressions.

Engine: The k20z3 is stout. Nice exhaust tone and engine noise under normal driving and heavy acceleration. VTEC engaged right around 5900-6000 and pulled all the way to redline at 8k. Very nice, smooth acceleration and "put you in the seat" power. I personally like the drive by wire system on the Si, because of the throttle responsiveness. But I can see where it would leave something to be desired on a modified, boosted, or all motor setup. I am sure Hondata will come out with something to get that taken care of.

Exterior: Loving the look of the headlights, wheels/tires, and rear decklid spoiler. The Habanero red is sexy as hell, and I like tohe look of the Si from the rear, very sporty and meaningful of its past heritage of the Si.

Interior: A little TOO roomy from the dash forward, with the shelf of the dash being a little long for my taste, but still looks good none the less. Gauges are VERY clean, with a center mouted tach, and speedometer above it.

Performance: Loving the LSD, 6 spd transmission, and VTEC engagement on this car. Being used to an EM2, I was hesitant to wind it past 6k, but all the room you have past 6k on the Si, is pure joy. Pulls really hard, and is very smooth on the VTEC engagement. Preloading the clutch at a standstill at about 4k, and powershifting through 2nd and 3rd, there was a little bit of torque steer, with the LSD engaging both wheels and enabling a beautiful launch. Wheelspin is a little excessive with the regular tires, but a set of performance tires would yield that to be nearly nothing as you slam into second gear.

Overall: I want one. Its a beautiful car, with astetics and performance that is to be reckoned with. Get this, the dealership I drove the car at only wanted $20,450 for this car. Itll be gone by the end of the day I am sure.

my only gripe about the interior is how big the damn A pillar is (cuz of the airbags)

I went canyon carving with my friend the other night and I couldn't see around the corners very well.. so.. iono

overall love the car though

This is true. It is freakin huge. And like I said, the dash "shelf" goes too far out into the car IMO. You have to reach way up there to get to the base of the windshield.

But Im with you, I love the car. If I had something to trade in, I would in a minute

20,450 for a SI is great. Lowest quote in my area is 24,000.

Reserve the car and get a lower quote. They have already added options.

Yeah, it was probably sold once you left the dealer. When I went to reserve mine, they had one on the lot (which I purchased). As I was doing the paper work, 2 people came in to buy it. Luckily, I was just in time.

Just refinance it after a year, if you improve your credit. Try to pay a little extra principal and you will be able to lower your monthly payment considerably.

If you dont go hard on it during break-in, you'll have problems later when you do drive it hard
