I was planning on getting one also, since my audio upgrade. It should fit if you get the right one for the civic, I think.

Any decent store/shop selling Optimas should have a catalogue with fitment specs. I'm not familiar with the specs on Optimas or their track record, but in general, what you draw out of a battery has to be replaced by the charging system. In other words, don't think you can use a high capacity battery to compensate for excessive draw due to charging system problems or big amplifiers.

Re: Optima Battery?? (Perfectionist)
well I'm told that high output altenators are only affective at higher rpm's is this not true?? I'm told that putting in an optima yellowtop and a cap in the trunk i should be fine.
here's the issue...I'm driving home after work last night and I'm listening to my stereo and on the highway i noticed when my high beams were on they were dimming with the music.
i then got into town and have my lo beams on and a good song comes on so i turn up the system and the bass starts hitting pretty hard and all of a sudden it just stops playing bass notes, i turn it down and it comes back on (amp didn't shut down just seemingly not getting enough power) then i put it on some music with less bass and no matter how much i turn it up it's fine, it just can't seem to sustain the longer bass notes...first song i noticed it on was "Throw it on me / Timbaland"
I'm thinking a deep cycle battery & cap should fix this issue

caps are useless unless you're going for show. just upgrade your battery.
i think the g72's or the g51r's will work in the civic. g51r fit perfectly in my ej6
up front (old pic)
and in the back
I'm pretty sure that the FG and FA use the regular g72.. but i could be wrong
but as for the power issue, a few things come into play. when your amp is drawing power, it's coming from the alt, the battery is just there to back it up if the alt can't supply enough power. if you want to try a cheap way (like 20 bucks) to solve "some" of the dimming problems, upgrade your big 3 (or 4 as I do it). most people refer to them as the Hyper Grounds, but in the car audio world, it's The Big 3.
here is a simple writeup I did last year on this subject:

edit: sorry about the other edit.. but I ran across this thread:
http://www.8thcivic.com/forums...26651
it's an optima yellowtop D34.. so the g72 would definitly be a snug fit

Re: Optima Battery?? (mooseheads36)
Ok now i think i really have a problem....tonight i'm coming home from work, i go to turn up the system and it made a sharp pop sound then it continued to act as it did last night but much worse
it won't sustain any bass now, hell i can put on something with basically no bass and once the bass kicks in for more than like 2 seconds it drops all bass but continues to play the music...then even if i don't touch anything and leave it at the same volume it will eventually kick back in
little bit about my system:
- 4ga from battery back to amp
- 4ga ground, grounded under the back seat
- replaced my shitty walmart RCA's i originally had with some monster cable RCA's - (6months ago or more, not a new change)
- Kenwood KDC-X890 head unit
- KAC-X812D amp
- 2x 12" Kicker Comp VR subs
stock battery obviously...there is an alpine fuse (don't know much about it) about 12" +/- just off the battery, nothing else between the batt and the amp
I've had issues with the fuses (40 amp) in the amp itself blowing when i first got the amp but i believe it was because the gains were to high on the amp
they are running @ 4ohm i believe
i'm not sure what else i can give for info or if this should be moved to an audio thread or something....but I NEED HELP!!!
thanks

just so you know, the gain on the amp is not a volume ****. it's used to adjust the voltage sensitivity of the amp to match the output of the head unit. if you had an ocilliscope, they're really easy to set, but since you don't, play a song that you know by heart. have the gain all the way down, turn your volume 80-85% up. slowly turn the gain up until you hear the speaker distorting, then turn it down a hair. just don't let it distort, first, it sounds like ***, and 2nd, you'll blow it. you can overpower a speaker all day long with correctly set gains, but you can have improperly set gains running far less power to a speaker and toast it
