Just checked and the deductible is $1000 on the homeowners. The stuff stolen was totalled to just under $1000 so there's no point. Well, at least there's a guy fixing my window outside for no charge right now.

The only real security our cars have is the immobilizer system for the ignition.(chipped key) As for the "alarm" its really non-existent... many people think that since they have a key fob/remote they've got an alarm but in essence its only purpose is KEYLESS entry. Honda warranty wont cover anything... has nothing to do with a "manufacturers liability".</TD></TR></TABLE>

I bought my 07 civic SI w/ the factory alarm upgrade for $335.00. The alarm is made by Automate. Initially I was going to get a Clifford or Viper from Bestbuy. But the sales person told me that a factory alarm would not void the factory warranty on the car, whereas the aftermarket ones would. But now I regret not getting the aftermarket ones.

So after the installation, I noticed that my alarm would not go off when I yank on the door handles really hard or when I kick the wheels or knock on the hood and windows. What sets the alarm off is when I activate the alarm while sitting inside the car and then opening the door or stepping on the clutch. I hope it's just the sensitivity and that they can adjust it. If not... then I would think this alarm is very ineffective. So I'm heading back to the dealership to have them fix the sensitivity in 15 mins. I'll let you guys know what happens.. whether it could be adjusted or not.

And here's my experience so far with the Viper 350hv that best buy installed. Friend of mine while standing outside chatting with me decided out of the blues to kick my tires a few times, alarm sent out immediately a series of warning chirps. Parked on the street next to my house one afternoon and the bus went roaring by, set off the alarm immediately. And those were the only two experiences I've had so far, neither ocasion was I actually sitting in my car, pulling the door handle, or opening the door, or pushing the clutch, or what not. I just don't understand why factory alarms are designed that way, and they come back and charge you an arm and a leg for it?? My honest experience with the aftermarket alarm is that I love it!!

ps. I guarantee you that if you ever have to take your car in for a warranted repair (i hope not ever), I'm sure the last thing the work order write up guy will ask you is "what kinda alarm you got". They probably won't even pay attention to anything you've done to your car, unless it's ridiculously tricked out, with sponsorship stickers all over it. In fact, some of these service guys are actually so cool, they enjoy speaking to customers about your cars, if they like the way it looks. Once again, personal experience.

looks to me that the security system is an acessory for Canadian civics not American.
No Honda comes factory with a security system. They only have anti-theft.

True indeed. You can take a bat to all the panels and bust all the windows and the alarm still won't go off until you open the door without unlocking it with the remote first. Kinda sucks but oh well.

MOST OE Security systems allow for some sensitivity adjustments. If anything peek up above your pedals and look for a little black box with a small **** on it... this should be your sens. adjuster.

TRE_, you are right on the dot!!! The alarm guy showed me where the shock sensor is and he adjusted the sensitivity for me. However I was told that factory alarm only has shock sensor, whereas aftermarket alarms have shock sensor AND a motion detector that put out a signal around the perimeter of the car and inside the car. You can set this perimeter (sensitivity) to your preference. Some people set it to the point where if someone walks up to the car w/o even touch it, the alarm could go off.

To keep it short, factory alarm sucks . It doesn't have a lot of sensors. In fact, the only sensor w/ my alarm is located on top of the clutch pedal area. If I adjust it to be more sensitive, the driver seat area is going to be extra sensitive compare to the rest of the car, because the shock sensor is located close to the driver seat. Whereas if I kick the rear end of the car, the alarm might not go off, because the shock sensor is so far away. I hope this makes sense. Through this experience, I would recommend anyone to get an aftermarket alarm. Just my 2 cents.

Oh nah. I have the DX model, which didn't come with factory keyless entry, so my keys don't have any buttons on them. You can probably give bestbuy a call, cuz I'm sure this isn't an uncommon question to them, as in-key buttons are pretty common these days.
