Do carbon fiber hoods chip?
I am very very unhappy with the quality of the paint on my 2008 Si. I have about 20 chips down to the primer on my hood, fenders, and bumper. The car is 4 months old and looks 8 years old from the front. I take immaculate care of my car. It's actually pretty complusive. The rest of the car is in perfect condition (save for a door ding on the side of the fender). The paint that isn't chipped shines better than the day I bought it.
I have considered a few options;
1) I am actually considering lemon lawing the car, because it is unacceptable how badly the paint is chipped. I doubt I will be successful at all with this. If anyone had any luck with this, please comment.
2) Respraying the front of the car, and having them put a thicker clear on. But I really want to drive my car year round, and it'd probably get chipped again. Would the difference between the two thicknesses of clear be visible (where the fender meets the door)?
3) Buying a carbon fiber hood. It won't solve the problem of the chips on the fenders and bumper, but the hood is where most of the ugly chips are.
I don't know much about carbon fiber. I know it takes more work than paint to make it have a "showroom" shine, but that is no problem for me. I would be buying from Seibon, so I know they would probably have a thicker, more durable clear coat. I want to know how easily carbon fiber chips (if at all, because I know it's strong) and what it looks like if it does chip.
Anyone with a carbon fiber hood, please post pics of the condition of your hood, it's brand, and how many miles it has since it's been installed. Any, and all help is appreciated. Thanks.

I can't give you any durability answers but in my opinion I've always been a fan of the cf hoods of my friends' cars. Especially mounted on the 06+ civics. Here's a thread in the marketplace by LSD Motorsports selling SEIBON hoods, they look fresh and from reading it looks like they've pleased alot of customers. Check it out

Yea from what I've read and seen on other people's cars, Seibon makes great products. I'd probably go with them. I have just never noticed if carbon fiber chips on my friends cars.

Yes, they do chip. Mainly, it's the clear coat on them that will get chips, not the CF itself.
Honestly, if you have THAT many chips, I'd recommend either
A) Living with it
or
B) Repaint and then getting a clear bra put on it. My friend has one of those on his off-roading truck and his front-end looks perfect, even though rocks and **** are continuously being kicked up out there.
You won't get a lemon-law on your side because of chipped paint. I complained to my dealership a few times about this and didn't get any help. Sucks

after reading your complaint and thinking about all the rock and sand on the roads because of this winter, I may really consider putting on 3M paint protection. I know a guy that can hook me up pretty good. May just be worth it now considering re-spraying just the hood will be twice as much.
