Default Did anybody go from a 350Z to a Civic or Vice Versa?

I have an interest in a Z and I'm wondering if anybody has come from driving one or went to driving one. I would like to hear some unbiased opinions if possible. Even if you haven't owned both, any input would be great. If you have anything negative to say, then please explain why; Basically, I don't want to hear someone say something like, "THE Z SUCKS CAUSE HONDAS ARE BETTER" so please leave that kind of thing out.

Z looks really nice, but I wouldn't want it for daily driving it seems to have massive blind spots. I thought I read somewhere on this forum that someone gave up a Z for civic, I'm not 100% sure though. I bet there are people who gave up civic for Zs also.

The Z is a nice car but does have it's downsides as well. First it's only a 2 seater so if you have any kids that'll be your first problem with having no back seat.

Second as stated above....it does have a huge blindspot courtesy of that itsy bitsy rear quarter glass so you'll have to be extra careful when changing lanes or merging.

Third would probably be the insurance rate on the car being higher than that of a new Civic.

But it does have it's plus' to. It's a RWD car with plenty of torque and HP to go along with the looks along with an armada of aftermarket products for the car. But going from a FWD car to a RWD car is a new experience if you've never driven one before. Can't exactly gun it out of a sharp turn or you could spin that baby right out if you don't know what you're doing.

It also has a lot more weight.

The Z is a lot more look and comfort than it is go power. I can keep up with a Z to about 125 then they pull. So don't expect amazing speed. Just a better luxury roadster.

I actually read from a 350z owner that it was the complete opposite of that.. you sacrifice a lot of fit and finish, along with ride comfort, for loads of power just waiting for you at as little as 2000 RPMs.

From a 240Z to a 2006 Civic Si. (Not what you meant.)

Surprisingly, other than the obvious FRD vrs. FFD, both cars' chassis are very similar to one another.

Z tended to understeer, but could get some rotation out of it by lifting the throttle.
Just like the Civic Si.

But in the 240Z you are sitting *just* *forward* of the rear wheels, so the driver's connection to the chassis feels completely different. But if you look at the 2006 Civic Si as a 2+2.5, it's put on 500 pounds over the 240Z but picked up 50 HP.

The 350Z. The 350Z shares none of the heritage of the 240Z. The 350Z is not my cup of tea, so I'll stop there.

You have to understand the "honda mentality"

I don't know what other cars you've owned or frequently drive but luckily i've been behind the wheel of ALOT of cars.

The reason that the Honda/Acura fanboi response is that.. basically they are fun cars.... no if's and's or but's about it...
I can hop in the Si, speed around and be nimble while realizing that the guy in the camry next to me is not NEARLY having the same fun i am in his car going to the same destination.

There is a thick black line... between Fun to drive car... and drivers car

The 350z is a great car... if you enjoy RWD and torque ... but it like others lack that 'wow" factor**

but alas if its driven properly! the above comment is voided

Think what vehicles were offered in 1999 and you will see how rediculous a statement this is.

Compared to the Si, the 350Z is a luxury car. It's just a lot nicer inside and out. But all that luxury adds weight that really holds back the motor it has. Maybe that is why they are moving up to the 370Z (3.7L V6)

My parents owned a 350z and I own an 06 Si. The 350z was definitely a blast to drive. Way more horsepower and torque. You turn a lot more heads too if you keep it clean and looking good.
The downsides are that it's a lot more expensive, gas prices keep going up and it takes a lot of gas. That's actually the reason my parents sold it. It only has two seats. I think it would be great car to own but not a daily driver.
I agree with type x in that the Si is more nimble and you can go drive around for an hour or two and don't have to break the bank to do it.

No it's not. The luxury version would be the G35 from Infiniti.

Neither the Z nor the Si are luxury cars. They are sports coupes....nothing more. Granted the interiors are nice on both cars they are not luxury grade.

Do you have any additional mods besides the ones listed in your signature? If so then I would believe you. You're right....the Z does have alot more weight, but it's also got that 6 speed tranny which gives it a high 13 second quarter mile time. Far faster than a '06 Si with just intake and exhaust.

Now I can see you keeping up (maybe) with a convertible automatic 350Z.....but I think the 6 speed would eat you and me alive....especially on the highway.

So far the only car near the 350Z power range that i've been able to beat is an automatic G35 coupe with exhaust.

I guess one of my problems is that I work at a Porsche/Jaguar/Aston Martin dealership. I do realize that the Si does have that big 'wow' factor for how little it costs. I suppose I've lost a lot of the 'wow' I get from it though because I drive Porsches all day. That's part of the reason I want to get something with some more torque.

As for the price issue, I'm not worried about it. It'll be nearly a straight trade for an 05 we got on the lot at my work.

I'm sure your management will appreciate you testing the "wow" factor on their customers' cars. Better be careful with those cars. You're lucky to land a job at such a high end dealership at a young age. Don't mess it up.!

By 'wow' factor, I don't mean speeding or flooring customer cars or anything. There are times when we deliver cars and etc. I know I have to be careful , I'm not about to pay the cost of a repair on an Aston Martin.

By the way, when I went to check what Honda would pay for my Si, they offered me a brand new 07 S2000 for $2000 under invoice with a trade-in. It's a really really really tempting offer, but the 05 350Z is much more within range.

Didn't know you guys missed me that much.

I almost fell out of my seat reading some of the posts on this page. lol

- My 350Z's interior sucks and has practically 0 luxury unless you get leather and heated seats. Only thing I have in luxury is power windows and AC.

- If you think the Si can hang with the Z up to 125 without FI or nitrous, ROFLMAO. The 350 guys would have a field day with that, they seem to hate RSX's more though.

- If you think the Z is heavy 2877 = Civic, 3200=350Z (depends on model and year). Like having two extra people in the car yet 100 more ponies not to mention way more torque.

- The Z is awesome to drive and gets way more attention than my Si. Z gets a lot more haters, I get cussed at, **** thrown at, cut off, flipped off, asked for gas money by asshats at the gas station, list goes on and on. Civic I never have to worry about that, just little kids trying to jack my parts.

- I hate driving the Z on trips longer then 40 minutes as it is very uncomfortable on 19s with pain in *** torque due to a stiff stock clutch. Even stock 18s ride sucked. Pricey to mod as well. 250-300 for 275/35/19 tire (1 corner).

- Overall I couldn't just drive the Z alone for daily, yet I couldn't drive just a Honda so hence both. My Si is awesome and way more practical but the Z is a lot more serious business.

- A lot more technology in the Civic which is a + but you can't slap on 19's with a 4.5 inch rear lip and +10 offsets on a Civic though.

- Gas mileage has been very very similar. Si = 22 mpg so far, Z has been about 20.

I like both cars equally as they both have different pros and cons.

Goodluck chosing, my advice is to buy a cheap car and save money.

What was the final price on the S2K?? Here at my dealership they had them for as low as $28K brand new. Other dealerships i've seen have them as high as $35K.
