Civic VS Civic SI acceleration
Somewhere in this thread, I've read that the run times of the civic and the civic SI on a track are very similar. I got curious was wondering if the two civic have very similar acceleration and everything, what big difference does i-vtec make? Shouldn't vtec make a big difference? if it does then why does the run time between the two cars on a quarter mile so similar?

Similar, you are joking, right?
i-VTEC in the R18 is an economy i-VTEC, more like a single cam destroked K20A3.

Think of it like this, the R18 has a single cam while the SI has Two.
Who would run faster? The one legged bum or the two legged bum? Then on top of that, the one legged bum is running to conserve energy.
Hmmmm

I don't see how it could be similar (stock for stock) on any track, 1/4 mile or not.
Whoever posted that has their facts mixed up. No offense to any of you R18 guys (because it's a great car in it's own right) but the R18 Civics cannot touch the Si on any track. Either the OP is completely misunderstanding "similar" numbers, or it was an R18 owner that just couldn't accept his car is tuned exclusively for economy.
OP-even a second in the 1/4 mile is huge. I run a second behind stock EVOs at my track, and the difference is huge.

no offence I own a R18...but an SI is an SI no comparasion to the regular R18 I bought the R18 exclusively for the economy reason and am pretty happy about it I get an average of 34MPG and that is really satisfying for my 110 mile DD commute.....well I am coming from a Acura CL 2.3 and that 10yr old engine would give me 27mpg for the same commute....so buying an SI would not have helped me....but I love both the cars equally the CL and the R18....dont get me wrong I was really tempted to buy the Si but the economy factor just over weighed the sporter part...am working on improving the handelling of this R18...but I know no matter what I do I will nvere be able to come close to teh SI....but well live with the fact....hahah
just my 2%
just my 2%

civicguru, please learn how to form complete sentences with proper grammar and spelling. Additionally you should learn how to use terms, it's 2 cents/$.02 not 2%.

My wife has an 07 galaxy grey EX and I have an 08 tafetta white Si.Both are sedans.Believe me when I say that there is no comparison in any way.The Si is way faster in any type of event. The only thing better about the EX is all the HFP stuff I have on it(18inch wheels, suspension) and the better gas mileage(her 34 city to my 25 city).

no need to explain db2. we are all aware that the si is a different machine. the op obviously has wrong information. its just a shame he didnt think about it before he went and posted it.

i think the op was looking at the times from a different point of view.
so lets say a stock si is low 15 on 1/4 mile. so we'll just put 15.1 like specs say.
and a regular civic (guessing) high 16. so we'll say 16.8.
i think the op was using a clock to determine the difference. 2 seconds, doesnt seem long in real time, but when ur in the losing car, 2 seconds is a long time. long enough for you to see the winning car's time and guess what time you're going to run. also numerically, 55 mph is 80 ft/sec. and the si traps about mid 90's so losing by 130+ feet is pretty bad.
but my times with the r18 civic might have been off. but the main point is the si will win all day. maybe not on gas mileage, but the fun factor is definintely a lot higher

ahhhh fanboi-ism.
OP stock for stock an si is a totally different machine, and quite a bit faster; track, 1/4 mile, autox, whatever.
I think most of the si owners on here are just upset they bought a 15 second car for $22,000
you're an idiot

Though I don't own an Si anymore I had taken my car to MANY 14.7-14.9 passes show room stock, at more than 1 track around the country. LoL at people who base their facts on what they read in media print. MOST of the media tests vehicles with equipment they set up themselves at closed to the public locations with cones etc. Rarely do media outlets rent track time, especially for a vehicle like the Si.
Additionally There isn't an automaker in the world that produces a car as fast as the Si in the same class. Anything faster is either considerably lighter, has more displacement, forced induction or all of the above, and costs as much as $3k more or higher.
How is that for fan-boy-ism?

my comment was not directed at you, it was directed at the kids who swing off the nuts of the civic si.
Is it a good car? yes. Is it expensive for what you get? yes.
...and you've got to be kidding about your "class" argument. So a FWD with F/I isn't in the same "class" as a 200 hp civic si because it's not N/A? Give me a break.
I'm not going to benchrace here, and in actuality it comes down to personal preference in the end, but I could think of at least 3 cars that I would rather spend that kind of money on over your precious civic si.

I know your comment was not directed at me.
I'm not bench racing, not by a long shot. Name 1 car that performs as well as the Si that doesn't have forced induction, more displacement, or is considerably lighter.
The truth is you WON'T find any, FWD, AWD or RWD. And as I said before any that do have the above mentioned attributes.
To me the class is subcompact/compact regardless of drive train orientation.

what the hell does F/I, displacement or weight have to do with anything.
2 FWD "sports cars" with similar price are in the same class as eachother. Period. I'm not quite sure I understand your logic.
Is it because Honda doesn't use a turbo to get 200 hp out of a 2 liter? Don't get me wrong. They are awesome motors (esp. the z3), but some people like torque and some people don't like to wait until 5k to hit 200 hp.

Yeah I like torque when I am towing a trailer. Yeah I like torque so I dont have to drop 2 gears to get a vehicle going when I am tired and headed home.
With ALL things being equal the vehicle with the most HP will out accelerate the other REGARDLESS of torque, but that is another topic for another day.
My arguement is that NO auto maker can match the performance of the Si without having to add more displacement, without adding forced induction, or producing a lighter car. What other automaker is matching the performance of the Si for same money? NONE!
I'll say it another way, sure there are faster cars, sure there are cars that perform better, sure there are cars that money MAY be better spent on, but they all cost more, have forced induction, or resemble go karts.
